Browns vs Jaguars Predictions & NFL Picks (9/15)
The Browns head into this NFL Week 2 showdown following a disappointing 33-17 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Cleveland’s offense just couldn’t get anything going as Deshaun Watson & Co. only generated 230 total yards while going 2-for-15 on third downs and turning the ball over twice.
On the flip side, the Jaguars are hoping to bounce back after a 20-17 defeat at the hands of the Miami Dolphins. Jacksonville got off to a 14-0 lead but couldn’t hold on to it as the team was held scoreless in the second half before losing the game on a 52-yard field goal as time expired.
Even though the Browns’ attack didn’t look great, their defense was at least respectable. Yes, the Cowboys scored 33 points, however, 12 of those points came off of field goals while one of Dallas’ touchdowns came on a 60-yard punt return. At the end of the day, Cleveland limited the opposition to just 265 total yards across 14 drives.
The same can’t be said for the Jaguars, who gave up 400 total yards to the Dolphins and an average of 6.2 yards per play. It didn’t help that Jacksonville allowed Miami to convert on 50% (8-of-16) of their third-down attempts while being unable to force even one turnover.
Will the Browns’ offense be able to outgun the Jaguars’ struggling attack on Sunday?
This weekend’s meeting marks the first Browns vs. Jaguars clash since the teams met in Cleveland during Week 14 of the 2023 season. The Browns ended up notching a 31-27 victory over the Jaguars that afternoon in a game where the former led wire to wire.
With that victory, Cleveland now owns back-to-back wins over Jacksonville, having not lost to the latter since November 2017. That’s without mentioning how Kevin Stefanski’s squad is 4-2 SU in its last six road games against the Jags.
It’s also worth noting that the Browns are 10-1 SU across their last 11 encounters with an AFC South team.
Can the Jaguars beat the Browns for the first time in seven years?
When it comes to this NFL Week 2 matchup, I’m backing the Browns to win. The Jaguars struggled on both sides of the ball last weekend, whereas the Browns at least looked semi-competent on defense. Assuming that Cleveland’s defenders don’t regress, they should be able to take advantage of Jacksonville’s struggles.
Keeping that in mind, let’s take the Browns to cover the spread. Jacksonville is only 2-5 ATS in its last seven games dating back to the 2023 campaign and went just 5-6 ATS in non-division games last year. Meanwhile, Cleveland went 7-4-1 ATS when facing non-AFC North teams.
After beating the Jaguars by four points last season, I see the Browns covering the spread again (even if they don’t win outright).

With Nick Chubb still banged up, Ford will — once again — be Cleveland’s No. 1 running back in Week 2. While the ex-2022 fifth-rounder didn’t have the greatest showing in Week 1, he still managed to record a two-yard TD during garbage time while tallying 44 rushing yards on 12 carries. Dating back to Week 2 of last season, Ford now has 10 total touchdowns in his last 12 games.
Considering how the Dolphins’ De’Von Achane managed to record a goal-line TD against the Jaguars last week, Ford has a good chance of hitting paydirt on Sunday.
Best Browns vs. Jaguars Prop Bet: Jerome Ford Anytime Touchdown (+150)
