See Picks & Statistics For The GameThe 2022-23 NHL season has been a treat to watch thus far and more action is on the way. A whopping 13 matchups are scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 18, including a huge meeting between the Colorado Avalanche and Carolina Hurricanes. The two sides are viewed as contenders in the league, meaning this Avalanche vs Hurricanes matchup could be a potential Stanley Cup preview.
While the season began slow, things have heated up for the Avalanche lately. They were on a four-game winning streak before losing 3-2 to the St. Louis Blues on Monday, leaving time to tell if the defending Stanley Cup Champions can get back on track over their upcoming road trip.
Meanwhile, the Hurricanes enter this matchup hoping to win back-to-back outings for the first time in nearly two weeks. Momentum is high after Pyotr Kochetkov stopped all 27 shots in a 3-0 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday, giving Carolina a much-needed boost ahead of Thursday’s festivities.
As with most notable matchups, there are plenty of betting opportunities in this Avalanche vs Hurricanes showdown. Here’s a look at BetOnline Sportsbook’s latest odds for the games, as well as a prediction and the best bet to make, courtesy of Betting News.

Colorado Avalanche vs Carolina Hurricanes Prediction and Picks
Avalanche vs Hurricanes Prediction: Avalanche 3, Hurricanes 2
Avalanche vs Hurricanes Picks: Avalanche ML (Best Value: +106 at BetOnline) & Under 6 Goals (Best Value: -104 at BetOnline)
Even though the season is still young, this is already the second meeting between the Avalanche and Hurricanes. The two foes already met at Ball Arena back on Nov. 12, resulting in a 4-1 victory for Colorado.
Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar found the back of the net twice in the victory while Mikko Rantanen had a four-point night. As much as the Hurricanes tried, they just couldn’t solve Pavel Francouz, who stopped 24 of the 25 shots that he faced.
Now, the battle shifts to PNC Arena, where the Hurricanes are 13-3 straight up in their last 16 home games. Furthermore, Carolina has also won eight of its last 11 home games against Colorado dating back to 2009. The average score of those games is 2.2 to 1.6 in favor of the Hurricanes, showing just how close things have been.
Even with recent history being on the Hurricanes’ side, I like the Avalanche’s odds of getting another win against Rod Brind'Amour’s club.
For starters, Carolina has lost three of its last five games by multi-goal margins. While the Hurricanes have a pair of wins over that stretch, they came against the Chicago Blackhawks and Edmonton Oilers — two clubs who’ve had issues with consistency.
The Avalanche have also caught fire at the right time. Their 22 goals over the last five games rank No. 1 in the NHL, whereas the Hurricanes’ 12 goals over that stretch are tied for fifth-worst league-wide.
On top of that, Carolina’s penalty kill is only operating at a 78.0% success rate this season (No. 15). If the Hurricanes find themselves in penalty trouble, they have to go up against an Avalanche power play that ranks first in the league (37.0%).
I like what the Avalanche have been doing lately and I think that they’ll keep the ball rolling tonight. With the likes of Rantanen, Makar and Nathan MacKinnon combining for 36 points over their last five games, things will be too much for the Hurricanes to handle.
For the most value here, take the Avalanche winning at +108 on the moneyline. I’m also backing the total going under six goals. Each of the last five Avalanche vs Hurricanes games at PNC Arena have hit the under, along with seven of Colorado’s last eight games this season.
With the average total of the last 10 games between the Avalanche and Hurricanes being five goals, go with the under yet again.
