The Dallas Stars can punch their ticket to the Western Conference Finals when they meet the Colorado Avalanche for Game 5 on Wednesday, May 15.

The Stars hardly broke a sweat as they took a 3-1 series lead with a massive 5-1 victory in Game 4. Wyatt Johnston (2 goals, 1 assist) and Miro Heiskanen (1 goal, 2 assists) each recorded three-point efforts as Dallas won its third consecutive game in this series.
Does Colorado have what it takes to live to fight another day? Or will Dallas send its opponent to an early summer?
The time to answer those questions (and more) has come as we dive into my Avalanche vs. Stars Game 5 predictions and NHL best bets.

Avalanche vs Stars NHL Game 5 Predictions & Pick (5/15)
As this series continues, it’s become increasingly difficult to have faith in the Avalanche. As good as their roster is on paper, they haven’t lived up to their reputation in this series as they find themselves in a 3-1 hole heading into tonight’s pivotal clash.
The Avalanche’s main issue — and the reason why they’ve lost three straight games — is that they can’t keep the put out of their own net. They’ve allowed an average of 4.3 goals per game in this series and have been outscored 14-5 across the last three matchups. Regardless of which superstars are on Colorado’s roster, defeating a team like Dallas will be nearly impossible if that many goals are allowed.
It’s safe to say that the Avs need goaltender Alexandar Georgiev to finally steal a game. The 28-year-old netminder has struggled more often than not in this series, playing to a 3.17 goals-against average and .879 save percentage thus far.
Jake Oettinger, meanwhile, has been a brick wall through the Stars’ three-game winning streak. After performing below his standards in Game 1, Oettinger has backstopped his way to a 1.67 GAA and .941 SV% across the last three contests.
The Avalanche need G Alexandar Georgiev to start making more saves if they hope to keep their playoff dreams alive.
Another issue that’s been plaguing the Avalanche is their inability to keep up with the Stars’ depth. When a team can afford to have the likes of Mason Marchment, Matt Duchene, and Tyler Seguin on the third line, it’s clear that something special is brewing with Dallas.
It’s going to be even harder for the Avalanche to stop the Stars given the former’s injury situation. For starters, Devon Toews, one of Colorado’s best defensemen, is questionable for tonight due to the same illness that held him out of Game 4.
The Avs will also be without Valeri Nichushkin, who was suspended for at least six months after entering Stage 3 of the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program earlier this week. Nichushkin was one of the team’s best players before his suspension, racking up nine goals in eight postseason contests.

Without overthinking things, let’s back the Stars to win. Again, Dallas is the deeper team and that’s a quality that has paid off over the last three games. The Avalanche don’t look like the juggernaut that people thought they’d be and a continued lack of reliable goaltending will only make it harder to turn things around.
With that in mind, let’s also take the Stars to cover the puck line. They’ve beaten the Avalanche by at least two goals in each of the last three games, outscoring them by an average of three along the way. Given Georgiev’s struggles between the pipes, I won’t be shocked if the Stars experience another big win this evening.

Best Avalanche vs Stars NHL Game 5 Player Prop (5/15)
Even though he’s known for his goal-scoring ways, I’m taking Jason Robertson to record 1+ assists (-114) for the best Avalanche vs. Stars Game 5 prop.

Robertson has been a playmaking savant throughout this series, registering at least one assist in each of the first four games for a total of five. In fact, the 24-year-old all-star forward now has 11 assists in his last 11 games against the Avalanche and finished nine of those matchups with at least one helper.
As the Avalanche continue to bleed goals, there’s a good chance that Robertson will at least stumble his way into tallying an assist tonight.
