See Picks & Statistics For The GameThe Avalanche showed what they are capable in Game 2 of the series. They were scoring, even when down a man, and they held Tampa to 16 shots on goal.
The Avalanche are only the third team in NHL history to score 3+ goals in the first period of both Game 1 and Game 2 of the Final. They are putting the pressure on the Lightning to keep up early, and so far, Tampa have had very little opportunities to answer.
Darcy Kuemper has looked great in net during the Final. He picked up his 8th win of the postseason, and his first playoff shutout, when the teams met on Saturday.
The lines have shifted slightly as the Lightning now get two games at home. The teams are dead even on the moneyline as Tampa is 7-1 at Amalie Arena during the playoffs. They haven’t dropped a game at home since the home opener in Round 1.

Trends Heading Into Game 3
- The Avalanche have won each of their last 7 games
- The Avalanche have won the first period in each of their last 5 games against the Lightning
- 6 of the last 7 games between the Lightning and Avalanche have gone Over the total goal line
- Gabriel Landeskog has scored first in 3 of the last 4 games against the Lightning
- Ondrej Palat has recorded a point in each of the Lightning’s last 13 home games
- The Lightning have failed to cover the puck line in each of their last 6 games following a road loss
The Avalanche are on a hot streak. They are usually scoring first and putting games out of reach early. In Game 2, they single handedly reached the total goal line, so not only is it early, it’s also often.
In the 4 meetings between the two teams this year Gabriel Landeskog has landed the first blow and opened the scoring for Colorado. He has 3 goals and 2 assists against Tampa this year, and he will look to add to those totals on Monday night.
Avalanche vs. Lightning Prediction and Best Bets
Avalanche vs. Lightning Prediction: Avalanche 4, Lightning 3
Avalanche vs. Lightning Best Bets: Avalanche on the moneyline (-110 at BetOnline and Bovada Sportsbook)
There is no doubt that it is do-or-die for the Lightning at home. They are already down 2-0 in the series, and they have been outscored 11-3 in two games.
However, with the Avalanche not losing on the road throughout the entire postseason to this point, there doesn’t seem to be a home ice advantage present. An overall 12-2 record in the playoffs has proven the Avalanche to be a tough out.
The defense for Colorado stepped up in Game 2, and if we see that type of performance again, it could be too late for the Lightning. The Avalanche are the best value tonight, as they hold the same line with the Lightning.
At -110, a bet on Colorado has plenty of upside. They ar the overwhelming favorite at this point, and it would be a shame to miss out on this rare opportunity to snag them for a good price.
