The Bruins’ road trip has begun with back-to-back losses, most recently falling 6-3 to the lowly Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday. Despite being up by a goal early in the third period, the Bruins couldn’t stop the Blackhawks, who rattled off four unanswered goals to close out the game.

On the other side, the Jets are coming off a 5-3 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on the road two nights ago. Winnipeg now returns to Canada Life Centre, where it hasn’t found much success lately. If the Jets want to hold on to their spot in the standings, a stronger effort is needed against the NHL’s best team.

The Bruins have had issues winning lately, but it’s nothing compared to what the Jets have been going through. Winnipeg has been stuck in a rut since the tail end of February, dropping eight of its last 11 games.

The Jets have looked terrible in their own end over that stretch, allowing 45 goals — an average of 4.09 goals per game. Connor Hellebuyck — the team’s probable starting goaltender (per Daily Faceoff) — has a 4.05 goals-against average and .880 save percentage in his last eight starts. On top of that, he’s been pulled twice in that span.

Hellebuyck also has a trio of losses in his last four home games, allowing at least five goals in three of those contests. Making matters worse is that he’s lost three straight encounters involving the Bruins.

Although he allowed five goals on 28 shots against the Blackhawks, Linus Ullmark has still been strong for the most part. The Boston goaltender is 8-1-0 in his previous nine appearances, backstopping his way to a 2.19 GAA and .932 SV%.

It’ll also be interesting to see if the Jets can play better for the hometown crowd than they have been. They’ve dropped five of their last six home games, allowing four-plus goals in all but one of those matchups.

Despite recent struggles away from home, it can’t be denied that the Bruins are one of the league’s best road teams. Their 69.7% winning percentage on the road this season trails only that of the New Jersey Devils (75.8%). Boston is also a respectable 19-14 ATS on the road, whereas Winnipeg is 16-18 ATS at home.

The Bruins are also getting production from the top to the bottom of their lineup. Eight different Boston players have tallied at least seven points over the last 10 games. David Pastrnak leads the way with 12 over that duration while trade deadline acquisition Dmitry Orlov isn’t too far behind him with 11.

Meanwhile, the Jets’ top players haven’t been nearly as productive. Kyle Connor only has one goal in his last 11 games. Blake Wheeler has gone 14 straight games without a goal. Adam Lowry has only found the back of the net once in his last 41 appearances.

With the Jets being putrid at home over the last several weeks, I can’t help but side with the Bruins tonight. Boston’s only lost three games in a row once this year and after getting embarrassed by one of the worst teams in the league on Tuesday, I expect the Bruins to re-establish dominance with a convincing win over the Jets.

Having said that, I’m taking the OVER on the 6.5-goal total as another solid betting option. For starters, the OVER is 4-2-1 in Boston’s last seven games, as well as 6-2 in Winnipeg’s last eight. On top of that, both sides have been allowing quite a few goals in their last few outings. Look for both sides to put defense in the rearview mirror as offense takes over tonight’s Bruins vs Jets showdown.
