Bruins vs Panthers Game 6 Preview

The Bruins can’t dwell on their overtime loss for too long. Things didn’t go as planned two nights ago, but they have a great chance to eliminate the Panthers tonight.

For starters, the Panthers haven’t played well at FLA Live Arena over the last month. They’re 2-6 straight up in their last eight home games, allowing four-plus goals on five occasions. Furthermore, they already lost both of the home games thus far in this series, being outscored a combined 10-4 in Games 3 and 4.

Making matters worse for the home team is that the Bruins have been electric on the road this season. Not only are they 33-10 straight up as the visitors this campaign, but they’ve also won each of their previous 10 away contests, having not lost on the road since March 14.

The Bruins have completely dominated their last 10 road opponents, outscoring them 45-22. Their power play has been golden over that stretch, operating at a 25.0% success rate (8-of-32). The penalty kill has also been effective, killing off 38-of-40 calls (95.0%).

Unfortunately for the Panthers, their special teams have been anything but reliable in this series. Their power play has only scored twice on 13 chances (15.4%) while the penalty kill is only 13-of-19 (68.4%).

It’ll be interesting to see if Panthers goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky plays better than he has at FLA Live Arena. Furthermore, he finished with a sub-.900 SV% in all but two of those games.

On the other side, Linus Ullmark has given the Bruins solid play between the pipes on the road. Ullmark is sporting an 8-1 record in his last nine road games, playing to a 2.41 GAA and .931 SV%. He’s also 4-2-1 with a 2.59 GAA and .933 SV% in seven career trips to FLA Live Arena.

I see the Bruins ending this series with a victory tonight. The fact of the matter is that they’re too strong on the road to lose back-to-back outings. They have the advantage over the Panthers in most areas — especially on special teams and between the pipes. Florida might be riding high after the OT win, but Boston will bring it back down to reality.

I also see tonight’s Bruins vs Panthers matchup going over 6.5 goals. After all, the two sides surpassed that number three times in the last four games. The over is now 6-2 in Boston’s last eight games as well as 4-2 in Florida’s previous six.

On top of that, the over is 7-2 in the last nine Bruins-Panthers tilts, averaging out to 7.3 goals per game. With the over also hitting in eight of Boston’s last 12 games as the odds-on favorite, it’s more than likely we see more goals than expected tonight.
