After a brief Christmas break, the National Hockey League is back with 14 games on Wednesday, Dec. 27. One of these matchups is going down on TNT as the Boston Bruins (19-7-6) pay a visit to the Buffalo Sabres (14-17-4) at 7:30 p.m. ET.
The Bruins return to action on a four-game losing streak, leaving time to tell if their woes end tonight. Meanwhile, the Sabres have dropped four of their last six outings, most recently falling 4-3 to the New York Rangers in overtime on Dec. 23.
Despite its current losing skid, Boston is still Bovada’s -120 favorite to win the Atlantic Division this season. Buffalo’s odds are much less favorable, though, clocking in at +20000 (T-6th).
It’s always a blast when these rivals meet, so let’s not waste any more time — my Bruins vs Sabres predictions and best bets are waiting below.

Bruins vs Sabres Prediction & Pick (Dec. 27)
It’s no secret that the Bruins could use a decisive win tonight. After all, it’s been nearly two weeks since they last won a game. Before their current skid, the most games they lost in a row this season was three and that was their only multi-game losing streak.
The key to returning to the win column is for the Bruins to rediscover their offense. They’ve been held to two or fewer goals in four of their last six games, losing each of those occasions. While David Pastrnak and Morgan Geekie have done their part with four and three goals, respectively, during that span, the likes of Charlie Coyle, Jake DeBrusk, and Pavel Zacha have been held goalless.
Fortunately for Boston, Buffalo has been allowing a lot of goals lately. The Sabres have surrendered 20 total goals in their last three games, which includes allowing nine to the lowly Columbus Blue Jackets just two home games ago.
And while the Sabres earned the 3-1 victory the last time these teams met nearly three weeks ago, it was the Bruins who notched a 5-2 win in the last game at KeyBank Center on Nov. 14.
In fact, KeyBank Center has become somewhat of a second home to Boston. The Bruins have won five straight trips to Buffalo, outscoring the Sabres 24-5 along the way, which equates to an average margin of 3.8 goals.
Furthermore, the Bruins scored on 42.9% of power-play opportunities (6-of-14) while killing all 14 of their penalties in those games.
Daily Faceoff also lists Devon Levi as the Sabres’ probable goaltender tonight, which also works in the Bruins’ favor. While he’s shown promise throughout his first full-time NHL campaign, Levi has allowed seven goals on his last 45 shots (.844 save percentage) and also holds a .880 SV% with a 3.78 goals-against average in two career meetings against Boston.
Meanwhile, the Bruins are probably rolling with Jeremy Swayman. Although the 25-year-old netminder has lost three consecutive starts, he has played to a 2.92 GAA and .912 SV% during that span.
In a game that could go either way, I’m taking the Bruins to emerge victorious. Boston is due for a win and there’s no place like home… well, KeyBank Center. The Bruins know how to win in Buffalo and should be able to capitalize on a Sabres team that’s had trouble keeping the puck out of their net.
But with neither side playing consistently, I’m taking the Over as the best bet. For starters, the Over is 5-2 in Boston’s last seven road games as well as 4-2 in Buffalo’s six previous at home. Additionally, four of the last five Bruins-Sabres matchups went over their projected totals, averaging 6.6 goals per game.
With both teams playing somewhat sloppy hockey, I won’t be surprised if several pucks find their way to the back of the nets.

Best Bruins vs Sabres NHL Player Prop (Dec. 27)
When it comes to the best Bruins vs. Sabres player prop, how can I not go with the Over on David Pastrnak’s 4.5-shot total again?
The Czech sniper leads the NHL with 163 shots on goal this season, averaging 5.1 per outing. Even more impressive is that Pastrnak is averaging 6.1 SOG over his last 10 games, finishing with the Over on this prop seven times — including when he registered nine against the Sabres on Dec. 7.
Considering how now he has 27 SOG in his last five outings against Buffalo, I’d say it’s a safe bet that Pastrnak will make good on this prop yet again.
