After a Stanley Cup Final for the ages, is a rematch in the cards?
After a Stanley Cup Final where a rookie goaltender had the season of his life and a center named O’Reilly matched the great Wayne Gretzky for a Stanley Cup Final record, it’s safe to say we may never see a playoff run like the one the St. Louis Blues just had this past postseason.
The Blues were able to successfully pull off a victorious streak unlike anything else we’ve ever seen, in a way, for gamblers and fans of hockey alike, we witnessed something akin to lightning striking. But is it possible for lightning to strike twice, and if so, can we cash in on it?
Boston Bruins +1000 to Win 2020 Stanley Cup
After a few shocking upsets in this past season’s playoffs, the Bruins were one of the only teams with a puncher’s chance to win it all, at least on paper. After nearly being eliminated in what appeared to be a sweep by the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Bruins incredibly came back to achieve victory.
In their following series against the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Bruins seemed poised to be a team to fall victim to the Blue Jackets’ ridiculous Cinderella run where they vanquished the top-seeded Tampa Bay Lightning in a 4-0 sweep, which is undoubtedly one of the most unexpected playoff upsets across any major American sports for a long while.
But the Bruins handled the Blue Jackets and would go on to sweep yet another underdog squad in the Carolina Hurricanes, who seemed to be just about a year too early as far as destiny goes. After having a beautiful underdog streak of their own, the Hurricanes would go down in four games to the Bruins, who opened as hefty favorites against the St. Louis Blues.
The series against the Blues showed that the Bruins, while stellar on the road, were extremely shaky at home, dropping three home games, including Game 7. Their inability to string together consistent performances resulted in their downfall and the Blues hoisting the Cup and celebrating on their home ice. With most of their squad likely to return intact, look for the Bruins to have plenty of motivation and talent to compete for the Cup next year.
At 10-1, the Bruins have plenty of value to hoist the Cup with the redemption angle in full force.
St. Louis Blues +1400
The St. Louis Blues, who at one point were 250-1 to win the Stanley Cup last season, shocked the world and pulled off one of the most unlikely wins in professional sports history. Their shocking Cinderella run was not only something that will forever be engrained in the minds of Blues fans but also, gamblers.
Aside from a fan who scored $100,000 off of a $400 futures wager, plenty of fans profited off of the Blues’ incredible high-value prices throughout the playoffs. Going into next season, much of the value on the Blues that once existed is all but gone.
While the Blues are still going to remain mostly intact, at 14-1, that’s a little short of a price to really have that much value. While the Blues will certainly perform well as one of the more talented squads in the Western Conference, don’t invest in these pumped up lines. While we like the Bruins to go far in the Eastern Conference, I expect a different squad to emerge out of the West next season.
