See Picks & Statistics For The GameThe Calgary Flames and Dallas Stars will play Game 4 at American Airlines Center on Monday night in Dallas. The Stars are coming off of a 4-2 victory in Game 3 on Saturday night.
The Stars were outshot in Game 3 but made the most of their own 32 shots to go up in the series and put pressure on the Flames.
Joe Pavelski and Jake Oettinger were the top two stars of the game. Pavelski found the back of the net twice, including the game winning goal midway through the third period. Oettinger was able to stop 39 of 41 Calgary shots on goal and recorded his second win of the series.
The Flames missed out on all 4 power play opportunities in the game and were lacking in physical play. They were outhit and outmatched in the final 30 minutes of the game and gave up what was a 2-1 lead in the second period.
The odds have Calgary slightly ahead, but, with the way Dallas has played in the series, it is anyone’s game for the taking. Dallas will look to go up 3-1 on Monday and push Calgary to their limit.

Defense and Goaltending
The defense for both teams in the series has been the highlight to this point. Neither team has been able to surpass 4 goals in a game, and the only reason Dallas scored 4 goals in Game 3 was because of an empty net goal with less than 1 second on the clock.
The goaltenders were the stars in each of the first 3 games. Only 9 goals have been scored in the series and 6 of those came in Game 3. Flames’ netminder, Jacob Markstrom, recorded a 1-0 shutout in Game 1. Stars’ goaltender, Jake Oettinger, posted a 2-0 shutout win in Game 2 and has only allowed 3 goals in 3 games.
Going into Game 4, expect more of the same trends. This will be another low scoring slugfest with plenty of hits and spectacular goaltending.
More trends suggest that Calgary may be in trouble. Not only do they play on the road, but they have also lost 4 of their last 5 games as the favorite to win. They currently sit as the slight favorite and will have to find a way to beat the Dallas goaltender if they want a chance to even up the series.
Flames vs. Stars Prediction and Best Bets
Flames vs. Stars Prediction: Stars 3, Flames 2
Flames vs. Stars Best Bets: Stars on the moneyline (+140 at Bovada Sportsbook) and Under 5.5 total goals (-125 on Bovada Sportsbook and -128 on BetOnline)
My predictions for this game are pretty simple. The Under 5.5 total goals should hit in this defensive contest. Without the last second empty net goal on Saturday, the under would have hit in all 3 games in the series.
The Stars also have one of the hottest goaltenders in the league who is stopping anything that moves. Expect another solid performance out of Oettinger as his team goes for a commanding series lead.
