It’s a quiet night for hockey with only one NHL game lined up for Friday, Feb. 16. The lone contest in question sees the Arizona Coyotes (23-25-4) host the Carolina Hurricanes (30-17-5) at Mullett Arena for a 9 p.m. ET clash on the NHL Network.

The Hurricanes are on bounce-back watch after falling 4-2 to the Dallas Stars on Tuesday. The Coyotes could also use a win after their losing streak was extended to seven games with Wednesday’s 3-1 loss to the Minnesota Wild.
When it comes to making the 2023-24 playoffs, Carolina is a near-lock at -4000 odds while Arizona is a major long shot at +1600, per BetOnline’s NHL odds.
Time will tell which club wins tonight to improve its playoff odds. In the meantime, let’s get into my Hurricanes vs. Coyotes prediction, best bets, and NHL picks today.

Hurricanes vs Coyotes Prediction & Pick (2/16): Arizona’s Slide Continues
Even if the home-ice advantage is on the Coyotes’ side tonight, momentum certainly isn’t.
Arizona heads into tonight’s contest on a seven-game losing streak, having not won since Jan. 22. The Coyotes have struggled at both ends of the ice during their skid, being outscored 31-16 on aggregate during that run. They just aren’t looking competitive on the power play either, scoring on just three of their last 21 opportunities (14.3%).
Additionally, the Coyotes have only killed 22 of the last 28 penalties they’ve taken (78.6%).
It’s safe to say that dealing with the Hurricanes will be an uphill battle for the host team. Carolina scores the 11th-most goals while allowing the 12th-fewest on top of ranking second on the power play and fourth when it comes to the penalty kill.
The Hurricanes are one of the best teams when it comes to most areas this season.
The Hurricanes have also had the Coyotes’ numbers for years now, going 7-1 SU across the last eight clashes between these franchises. To put into perspective just how one-sided things were, Carolina beat Arizona by multiple goals in six of those games, which includes holding the Coyotes to one or zero goals five times.
That includes when the Canes picked up a 3-1 victory over the Coyotes back on Jan. 27. Three different Carolina players scored that night as Anti Raanta stopped 10 of the 11 shots he faced.
Even though the Coyotes are the home team tonight, they aren’t necessarily at an advantage. Not only are the Hurricanes 5-1 SU in their last six road games this season, but they’ve also won three consecutive road games against the Coyotes, having not lost in Arizona since November 2018.
It’ll be interesting to see how Karel Vejmelka performs between the pipes for the Coyotes. The 27-year-old netminder has struggled lately, going 0-5-0 with a 4.39 goals-against average and .885 save percentage in his last seven appearances.
Meanwhile, Carolina is receiving stellar play from Pyotr Kochetkov, who’s racked up a 6-2-0 record with a 2.19 GAA, .917 SV%, and one shutout in his last nine starts.
Karel Vejmelka has struggled to win games for the Coyotes lately. Will that change tonight?
Taking the Coyotes’ latest struggles into account, this game is the Hurricanes’ to lose tonight. Carolina is the clear-cut better squad and has already beaten Arizona once this season. It also won’t be difficult for the Hurricanes to make the undisciplined Coyotes pay if they call into penalty trouble considering the formers’ special teams success.
I also like Hurricanes to cover the puck line tonight. Five of the Coyotes’ last seven losses occurred by multi-goal margins, including the last two. Furthermore, the Hurricanes have beaten the Coyotes by two or more goals in six of their last eight meetings, as well as in each of the last three encounters where Carolina was the visitor.
At the end of the day, don’t be surprised if the Hurricanes win dominantly.

Best Hurricanes vs Coyotes NHL Player Prop (2/16)
There are a few Hurricanes vs. Coyotes player props that caught my eye today, but I’m going with the Over on Michael Bunting’s 2.5-shot total.
[su_icon icon="icon: check-circle" background="#F4F7FC" color="#2FBB9C" text_color="#1F2933" size="16" shape_size="4" radius="256" text_size="14" url="" margin="0"] $10 Cash Bonus with code "BNEWS" [/su_icon]
[su_icon icon="icon: check-circle" background="#F4F7FC" color="#2FBB9C" text_color="#1F2933" size="16" shape_size="4" radius="256" text_size="14" url="" margin="0"] Sports, Casino, Poker & Racebook [/su_icon]
On one hand, Bunting has generated fewer scoring opportunities this season, averaging 1.7 shots on goal compared to 3.6 last year. Having said that, the veteran forward has stepped things up lately, finishing with at least a trio of SOG in each of his last three outings. The Over is also 3-2 in his last five road games.
It’s also worth noting that since Jan. 1, the 34.5 shots per game the Coyotes allowed ranks third-most in the NHL. Throw in the fact that Arizona has taken a bunch of penalties lately and Bunting plays on Carolina’s top PP unit, I like the odds for him to pull through on this prop.
