Tuesday, May 9 contains even more 2022-23 NHL postseason action as the Carolina Hurricanes take on the New Jersey Devils in Game 4 of their second-round series. New Jersey cut the deficit in half with a victory over the weekend, leaving time to tell if Lindy Ruff’s club can turn the Hurricanes vs Devils series into a best-of-three situation with a win tonight.
The Devils got their first win of the series in style, picking up a massive 8-4 victory at Prudential Center on Sunday. Jack Hughes played like a man possessed, leading the charge with a four-point effort. Six other New Jersey players finished with multi-point performances, including center Dawson Mercer, who tallied a trio of assists.
Can the Devils capitalize on their Game 3 win with a similar performance Tuesday night? Or will the Hurricanes prove that the last game was a fluke and that they’re capable of better results?
Here’s a look at everything you know heading into Game 2 of the Kraken vs Stars series, from the latest betting odds to a prediction with the best betting recommendation.

Hurricanes vs Devils Game 4 Preview
After getting outscored 11-2 on aggregate in Games 1 and 2, the Devils looked like a completely different team in the latest outing. Fortunately, their recent history at Prudential Center gives them a good chance to build on that momentum.
The Devils have been victorious in eight of their last 10 home games, which includes going winning each of the latest three. On top of that, they’ve also beaten the Hurricanes in seven of their previous nine meetings at Prudential Center, outscoring them 39-25 along the way.
In order to break that curse, the Hurricanes need a better performance from whichever goaltender they roll with. Frederik Andersen surrounded four goals on 12 shots before he was pulled at the start of the second period in Game 3 while Pyotr Kochetkov was only marginally better, giving up four goals on 22 opportunities.
The good news for the Hurricanes is that Devils netminder Vitek Vanecek also looked vulnerable last game. The Czech goaltender only made 26 saves on 30 shots (.867 save percentage), meaning he now has a 3.67 goals-against average and .865 SV% during this series.
The Hurricanes need to figure out how to overcome their lengthy injury list as well. Names like Andrei Svechnikov, Max Pacioretty, and Jake Gardiner all remain on the injured reserve list. Meanwhile, Teuro Teravainen — who underwent hand surgery nearly three weeks ago — is still a ways away from returning to the lineup.
In other words, Carolina needs some of its healthy players to step up. The group of Martin Necas, Derek Stepan, Paul Stastny, Jesse Puljujarvi, and Brent Burns have combined for one point through three contests. That’s just unacceptable no matter how you look at it.
As for the Devils, they’re almost completely healthy. The only game-time decision will likely be defenseman Ryan Graves, who missed Game 3 with an upper-body injury. Other than that, the home team will be at full power.
At the end of the day, I expect a better effort from both sides. While the Devils got the last laugh two nights ago, their effort was hardly flawless. Unless they tighten things up, the Hurricanes could easily get their win back in enemy territory.
Hurricanes vs Devils Game 4 Prediction and Picks
Hurricanes vs Devils Prediction: Devils 4, Hurricanes 3
Hurricanes vs Devils: Devils ML (Best Value: -146 at BetOnline) & Over 5.5 Goals (Best Value: -105 at BetOnline)
Although I expect both teams to play more of a complete game, I’m siding with the Devils to even the series. The Hurricanes have played great for the most part this postseason, but their injuries are beginning to catch up with them. With Carolina’s goaltending situation also being unclear, I expect New Jersey to capitalize on home-ice advantage to force a 2-2 tie.
I’m also taking the over on the 5.5-goal total as another good bet to make. The over is not only 5-2 in Carolina’s previous seven road games, but also in four of New Jersey’s last five overall. These clubs have also combined for the over in five of the past six Hurricane vs Devils tilts, going over 5.5 goals in each of the first three games to begin this series.
With consistent goaltending being absent across the board, expect to see a fair amount of offense tonight.
