The Carolina Hurricanes travel to the big Apple to take on the New York Rangers in Madison Square Garden.
In this Metropolitan Divisional battle, who will come out on top with a win to kick off 2023?
Here is my analysis, a game prediction and my favorite player prop of the game!
The Canes just keep on Rollin’
There is no hotter team in the NHL right now other than the boys from Charlotte.
The Canes have won an amazing 11 games in a row and are looking like a clear powerhouse and frontrunner to challenge for the Cup.
They have been getting fantastic play all up and down their lines, from Martin Necas to Andrei Svechnikov, to Brady Skeji, to Sebastian Aho, to Brent Burns. I think you get my point.
The Canes are simply rolling right now, sitting at 25-6-6 and first in the Metro Division and 2nd in the East, only 6 points behind the Boston Bruins.
They withstood a tough test on New Years Day from the New Jersey Devils, winning 5-4 in a shootout, to secure their 11th straight victory.
Can they grab their 12th straight tonight against one of their former players, Vincent Trochek, and the Rangers in MSG?
Igor in the Garden?
The Rangers have been playing really good hockey as well the past couple of weeks, winning 4 of their last 7.
While it isn’t 11 straight, they have been stacking wins and collecting points and sit 20-12-6 and 4th in the Metro with 46 points, only 3 behind the Devils in 2nd.
The Rangers will go with G Igor Shesterkin in net tonight and while he hasn’t been as sensational as he was last season, he has still be great.
With Igor in net, the Rangers always have an advantage but this game also is about Vincent Trochek playing against his former team.
Trochek was traded from the Canes in the offseason to the Rangers after spending 2 seasons as a part of the Hurricanes.
Trochek has fit in nicely on this talented Rangers squad and I am sure will want to make a statement tonight against his former team in what should be battle.
In this showdown between these two Metro Divsion rivals, can the Rangers snag a win at home and halt the Canes winning streak?

Prediction
Winning 11 games in a row in the National Hockey league right now is an amazing feat. I think that streak comes to an end tonight.
The Rangers played spoiler to the Devils winning streak earlier this season at home and I think they do the same again tonight in front of what I am sure will be a rockin’ crowd at Madison Square Garden.
Give me the Rags on the Moneyline to get the job done and pick up another big division win, behind a great performance from G Igor Shesterkin.

Prop of the Game
Brady Skjei o2.5 SOGs (+126)
I had to look a bit deeper into the stats for this one as a lot of the shot props in this game are very juiced but Skjei stood out to me, especially because of his recent success on the road.
He has 3+ SOGs in 9 of his last 10 on the road and in 7 straight away from home.
For the plus money value and the awesome form he has away from home, this is my favorite prop of the game.
