Kings vs Oilers Game Preview

The Oilers certainly didn’t look like a team that was poised to lose for the majority of Game 1. After all, they were leading 3-1 with less than half of the third period remaining.

Unfortunately, the Oilers couldn’t hold on. Adrian Kempe’s second goal of the game pulled the Kings to within one goal at 11:23 into the third before Anze Kopitar buried a power play marker with 17 seconds remaining in regulation.

Penalty trouble wound up hurting the Oilers in overtime. Vincent Desharnais took a tripping penalty at 9:03 into the extra frame, opening the door for Alex Iafallo to end Game 1 with a power-play goal.

Although the loss was demoralizing, the Oilers cannot afford to dwell on things. The good news is that they’ve been in this exact position before and know how to get back on track.

Funny enough, the Oilers fell 4-3 to the Kings in Game 1 of last postseason’s opening round as well. Instead of letting the loss get the better of them, the Oilers bounced back with a 6-0 blowout win at Rogers Place in Game 2, playing a pivotal role in their eventual series victory.

If they’re going to even this series, the Oilers have to stay disciplined.
