See Picks & Statistics For The GameThe Colorado Avalanche have had the Central Division wrapped up for a while, however, they are still playing for more.
The Avalanche have an opportunity to win the Presidents’ Trophy, which is awarded to the team with the most regular season points at the end of the 82-game schedule. They sit two points behind the Florida Panthers with two games remaining in the regular season.
The Predators just locked in a spot in the postseason and are jockeying for position with the Dallas Stars to try and steal away the top Wild Card position.
Both teams come into Thursday night’s game playing for position and with their sights on the playoffs. The Predators lead the season series 2 games to 1 and will look to knock off their division rivals for a third straight time.

Avalanche Will Bury the Preds
In the Predators’ last six games against Central Division rivals, there have been 2 or more goals scored in the first period each time. I believe this will be the case again on Thursday night.
Nashville goaltender Juuse Saros is dealing with a lower body injury that he sustained in his last outing against the Flames on Tuesday night. This will mean that backup goalie, David Rittich, will be in net for the Preds.
Rittich is without a win in his last 3 starts, and has struggled in relief since Saros started having injury problems. The Avalanche will look to jump on him early and often in order to rattle his cage.
Colorado is tied for the second most goals per game average in the league. They strike often, usually in large groupings. With Nashville relying on a backup tonight, the game could get away from them before it even starts.
Nashville will try to rely on their defense to keep them in the game early on, but it is not one of their strong suits. They rank in the bottom half of the league in total defense and have committed the most penalty minutes since the beginning of the season.
I expect nothing less than a blowout in this game. The pieces haven’t fallen the way that Nashville needs them to, and Colorado has too much firepower. The Avalanche should be able to inch forward in the Presidents’ Trophy race, depending on how Florida does in their game against Ottawa.
