NHL training camps have officially begun! The ice is getting set and players are starting to warm up for the season. Last week we broke down three player prop futures in the Atlantic Division. Today let’s look at three futures best bets from the Metro! This is a multi-part series that will run until the first puck drop in early October. So time to lace them up and get ready to ride with Betzky on my favorite future player props and team point totals of the 2024-2025 NHL season!
1. Alexis Lafrenière o64.5 Points -115 on BetOnline:
The New York Rangers took forward Alexis Lafrenière 1st overall in the stacked 2020 NHL draft class. However in his first two NHL seasons he was outshined by other players drafted after him. Last season Lafrenière blew up, racking up 28 goals and 57 points in 82 games. But it was his last fourth of the season was particularly impressive. He especially turned heads in the playoffs where he had 8 goals and 14 points in the 16 playoff games the Rangers played.
Now the books are gifting us a low season point total. They are only predicting an 8 point increase from Lafrenière. I’m willing to say that he has turned the corner, and has the chance to play on the top power play unit and top line for the Rangers. While he showed chemistry with Panarin, it would not be a surprise if Lafrenière got the nod to lead the top forward line of Zibanejad and Kreider. And even if he doesn’t stick on the top line he will surley get more power play time, making this NHL futures best bet more enticing.
Last year Lafrenière had 104:23 power play minutes over the course of the season and often played on the 2nd unit. He also only put up 2 goals and 6 total power play points. Linemate and top Rangers forward Artemi Panarin had 294:11 power play minutes last season with a total of 44 power play points. If Lafrenière gets more PP time you have to image this point total will be easy to surpass. This prop is set far too low, and one of my favorite NHL futures best bet I’ve dug up so far.

2. Jack Hughes o40.5 Goals for -115 on BetOnline:
Could it be Jack Hughe’s true breakout season? While he has struggled to stay healthy, it hasn’t stopped him from putting up a career best 99 points with 43 goals just two seasons ago. He will be coming off an injury riddled season, but should be in full health on a revamped New Jersey Devils team. Not only have the rebuilt their blueline to be stronger and more punishing. They have also brought in offensive minded coach Sheldon Keefe.
This line seems to be baking seems to be giving a little wiggle room for injury. Hughes managed to net 27 goals in just 62 games last season, putting him on a 35 goal pace.
Yes, 35 goals wouldn’t hit for this future bet, but not only was Hughes dealing with a lingering injury last season but the entire Devils team could not catch a break. Top defenseman and power play quaterback Dougie Hamilton missed nearly the entire season. Top forwards Timo Meier and Nico Hischier were in and out of the line up. It was very rare that this team had all of their weapons.
So yes, I believe this will be Jack Hughe’s true breakout. One where he makes history on this Devils team by being the first player of the organization to hit 100 points. And possibly the first to hit 50 goals (+900). This is another tasty Metro division NHL futures best bet.

3. Seth Jarvis o62.5 Points for -115 on BetOnline:
Seth Jarvis got PAID. The 2020 NHL draft pick has fit like a glove for the Carolina Hurricanes bringing an underrated two-way game to the team and finding chemistry on the top line with Sebastian Aho. Last season he broke out with a 67 point campaign. Now the Hurricanes locked him up and he is set to continue to improve on the team.
The Hurricanes showed so much confidence that they were willing to let go of Teuvo Teravainen and Jake Guentzel. Perhaps due to cap reasons, but also due to Jarvis’ emergence as an “it” player in the league. With less players clogging up the top 6, Jarvis should find the most power play time in his career and also top line minutes. Even if he doesn’t stick on the top line, he can help make up a formable 2nd line with Martin Necas.
Betting on a player who is this young, has been very healthy and now has been locked up for 8 years to have a regression seems like a poor move. Instead we are going to root for the increased time on ice to result in an even great season than last year. This 62.5 point total seems like a nice floor for Jarvis rather than a ceiling making this one of the best NHL futures bets.
