One of the hottest teams in hockey takes the ice tonight in Toronto. The New York Rangers (40-17-3) will take on the Maple Leafs (34-17-8) at Scotiabank Arena.
The Maple Leafs and Rangers already played 2 games this season and split the games with each team getting a W. Both games were high scoring as well.
New York is 9-1-0 in their last 10 games and are coming in off a win. It was their 40th win of the season and they’re the 1st team in the league to hit the mark.
They lost their previous game to the Blue Jackets that snapped a 9-game winning streak. Other than that loss, they have been as hot as the sun.
Goalie Igor Shesterkin will get the start in net tonight vs the Leafs. He has a 26-12-1 record this season with a 2.65 GAA and a .911 save percentage.
Shesterkin has slowly put himself back in the Vezina conversation with all the wins. He started both games vs the Maple Leafs this season, so he got 1 win and 1 loss.

Toronto is doing what they normally do – crush in the regular season. They’re currently 3rd in the Atlantic Division behind Boston and Florida (2 more teams that are as hot as the sun!).
At home, the Leafs are 16-11-2 and are 8-2-0 in their last 10 games. They are also playing extremely good hockey right now like the Rangers.
The Maples Leafs rank in the top 6 in most offense categories, including goals scored and shots on goal forced per game. On defense though, they allow a lot of goals, ranking 20th in the league.
Goalie Ilya Samsonov is scheduled to get the start. It will be the 1st time this season he faces the Rangers, but he has won 9 out of this last 11 games.

In the 2 games we’ve seen so far this season, there was no shortage of goals. I really don’t think we see much of a difference tonight.
Shesterkin has allowed 2 and 6 goals in the 2 starts this season. Goaltending really isn’t Toronto’s strong point either. Samsonov will see the Rangers for the 1st time this year. His GAA being north of 3 helps this as well.
I think the Rangers light up Samsonov. This should be a high scoring, fast-paced game. I would expect to see Auston Matthews also score. He had 2 goals in each of the 2 games this season (which is bonkers).
Give me the over here at almost even money. The Rangers should cover more than half of this and Toronto will find the back of the net. Should be a good one to root for goals!
