The 2nd Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference is the tightest race around. We’re headed to MSG tonight where the Rangers will look to keep their hopes alive against the Lightning. Tampa has already secured their spot in the playoffs.
Tampa Bay is 44-26-6 this season and 2nd in the Atlantic Division. They come into this game off an overtime loss to the Sabres on Saturday night. The Lightning are 6-3-1 in their last 10 games despite losing back-to-back games.
This offense is powerful to say the lease. Tampa ranks 2nd in goals scored and 11th in shots on goal per game. Hitting the net is not a problem as they have the 2nd best shooting percentage in the league.
On defense, they’re again powerful. Ranking 5th in goals allowed and 14th in shots on goal allowed, the Lightning can hold it down. Special teams in an area they excel in, with the 7th best power play and 5th best penalty kill in the league.
Goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy is expected to get the start. He’s 36-20-3 this season with a 2.16 GAA and a .921 save percentage. Vasi has been having himself a year for sure.
Do the Rangers have what it takes to get into the playoffs?

New York Rangers Mika Zibanejad and Adam Fox both get ready for the upcoming faceoff.
The Rangers are 36-33-7 this season and 4th in the Metro Division. New York currently sits 4 points out of the 2nd Wild Card spot and are the closest team to it. They dropped a bad game to the Devils Saturday 4-0 and are 4-5-1 in their last 10 games.
New York’s offense hasn’t been as good as we know them this year, but still getting the job done. They’re 15th in goals scored and 12 in shots on goal per game. One surprise spot is they’re terrible on the power play, ranking 27th.
Defensively they can hold their own but aren’t anything special this season. Led by Adam Fox, they allow the 18th most goals and 27th most shots on goal per game. On the opposite of their power play, the Ranger rank 7th best on the penalty kill.
In net, we’re expected to see Igor Shesterkin. He is 25-27-5 this season with a 2.86 GAA and a .904 save percentage. Shesterkin is 2-2-1 in his last 5 games vs Tampa. Let’s check out the odds and get into the picks.

I really like the Lightning in this spot. Even though they clinched, Tampa is only 4 points spot out of the 1st spot in the Division. There is no reason why they would slow down at all, so I see them breaking their 2 game skid.
Every team likes to play on a big stage and who doesn’t like MSG? It’s the 1st game they’ll play there this season and their history is terrible, but this is a good get right spot. They have the big-time players who can get it done on a big stage.
I like for Nikita Kucherov to record 2 or more points. It should be priced around +125. He recorded 3 points the last game they played and 5 points the game prior. Tampa will need him to get things going to win this game.
The other play I like this for Igor Shesterkin to record over his saves line. The saves line should come out around 26-28 saves and around -125. I expect the Lightning to be ripping the puck and put up over 30 shots on goal.
