The Montreal Canadiens (30-36-12) will play the New York Islanders (36-27-15) at UBS Arena tonight. Montreal will come into this game looking to spoil the Islanders playoff push.
New York is currently the 3rd seed in the Metropolitan Division. They are only 2 points ahead of the Capitals who sit in the 2nd Wild Card spot. If the Islanders slip out of 3rd, they could still secure the 2nd Wild Card spot if needed.
Coming into this game, the Islanders are red hot. They are on a 5-game winning streak and are 7-3-0 in their last 10 games. Hopefully the team is getting hot at the right time.
The Islanders are coming off a big win over the Rangers Tuesday night, which boosted the momentum even more. Even though the Isles aren’t the greatness on offense or defense, they find ways to win and that’s all that matters.
It is looking like goalie Ilya Sorokin will get the start in net. He has had a very up and down season. His record is 24-19-11 with a 3.02 GAA and a .907 save percentage.
Islanders will look to take control of the game over the Canadiens

Montreal had a bad year all around. They’re going to finish possibly last in their division. On the road or at home, they could just not get it going.
The Canadiens come into this game off a win vs the Flyers Tuesday night where they exploded for 9 goals. Extremely odd for this team, but hey – every dog has its day.
Otherwise, their 5-5-0 in their last 10 games and have an away record of 14-16-8. Both offensively and defensively, the Canadiens rank in the bottom of the league for goals and shots on goal.
Goaltending has been an issue as well. The team traded Jake Allen at the deadline and Sam Montembeault has been the starter. He has a 16-15-7 record with a 3.10 GAA and a .904 save percentage. Montenbeault is expected in net tonight.

There is not much to say here for the Islanders other than this is a must win. They need to continue playing this solid hockey right into the playoffs.
Not only do they need to play like this for momentum, but they are also in the tightest race ever just to get into the playoffs. Every little bit of steam will help them.
Sorokin has been shaky this year, so we’ll call it what it is. He will be back in net after time off with Varly getting starts. I think this is a perfect game for him to settle back in. Honestly, Montreal is coming off putting up 9 goals, so a Sorokin shutout isn’t a bad sprinkle.
I think we see a nice win for the Islanders here. They’re going to come in and do their jobs. I do think the Habs blew their load a little the other night scoring and will have trouble finding the back of the net which will result in covering the puck line.
