Here we are for Game 2 of the Washington Capitals vs the New York Rangers. The Rangers dominated Game 1 by a score of 4-1. They had control from start to finish of that game.
The President Trophy winners are ready for the playoffs. This team is looking to make a deep run all the way to the cup. Washington is really going to have to dig down deep to win this series.
In Game 1, the Rangers hustled the Caps. They outshot them 31 to 21, won more faceoffs, and were more physical with 12 more hits. Neither team was able to convert on the power play.
Artemi Panarin had a great game with a goal on 7 shots. Chris Kreider also scored, and Matt Rempe got his first career playoff goal. It was an all-around good performance from the Rangers.
Goalie Igor Shesterkin only allowed 1 goal in the 2nd period. He was more than solid the whole game and had help from the defense keeping the shot count down. Shesterkin will be in net again for Game 2.

Washington snuck into the playoffs in cool fashion, beating out the Red Wings, Penguins and Flyers. Out of all 4 teams, I think the Caps were the team people were picking last if asked.
The Capitals have nothing to lose in this series as they almost didn’t even make it in. They can go out there and put it all on the line because no one expects them to win.
It’s going to take a big turnaround for them to make this a series. If they can somehow steal Game 2 and go back to DC 1-1 in the series, huge is an understatement.
They need to find their offense in Game 2. Not being able to produce in Game 1 gave them no momentum the whole game. If they can get some positive play on either side of the puck, then they can build some momentum.
Goalie Charlie Lindgren is expected to start again. He had 27 out of the 31 shots he faced in Game 1. Getting some help on defense will be a huge key to his success.

I’d say this is going to be a long road for Washington, but it’s not. It’s going to be a quick 4-game spanking and this will be the 2nd one.
The Rangers are firing on all cylinders and have the Cup in their sights. They dominated the last game, and I don’t see anything changing in this game.
Expect them to come out early and gain control of this game. It took until the 2nd period of Game 1 for the Rangers to get going, but that will change. They’re going to come out the gate hot.
Igor looked great on Game 1 and should be just as ready for Game 2. As long as the Rangers play the same game, they win this game by 2 goals easily.
Nugget: I do like Panarin to score again. He has been so good this year and deadly on the power play. His anytime goal is +130 and definitely worth a sprinkle.
