Ohhhhh Canada!! We’re heading up north for a battle between the Buffalo Sabres and Calgary Flames. The Flames will look to defend home ice tonight. These 2 teams met back in November and the Sabres won 3-2.
Buffalo is 18-24-5 this season and in last place in the Atlantic Division. They’re 4-5-1 in their last 10 games and come into this game off a win over the Canucks Tuesday night. The Sabres have played the same kind of hockey, home and on the road, with almost identical records.
The Sabres offense can find the back of the net ok and without taking that many shots. They rank 12th in the league for goals scored, but 23rd in shots on goal per game. Their power play ranks in the bottom of the league, only converting 17.8% of the time.
Defensively, they’re riding the struggle bus. Buffalo ranks 3rd worst in goals allowed and 6th worst in shots on goal allowed per game. Their penalty kill also isn’t great and having poor special teams can kill your team.
Goalie Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen is expected to get the start tonight. He has a 15-14-4 record with a 2.99 GAA and a .897 save percentage. Luukkonen will be tested by this Flames team tonight.
Calgary looks to defend home ice and win back-to-back games
The Flames are 22-16-7 this season and 4th in the Pacific Division. They come into this game off a win over the Jets Saturday and are 5-5-0 in their last 10 games. This team is pretty good at home with a 14-6-3 record and they’ll look to continue it tonight.
Calgary’s offense hasn’t been the best this season. They rank 12th in shots on goal but are 3rd worst in shooting percentage. The Flames also don’t find the back of the night too often, ranking 4th worst in league for goals scored per game.
On the other side of the puck, things are kind of the same. Calgary ranks 13th in the league for goals allowed but are 25th in the league for shots on goal allowed per game. Their penalty kill is terrible, ranking 3rd worst in the league.
Statistically, this team is not very good, but they’re finding ways to win. Goalie Dustin Wolf is expected to get the start. He is 16-7-2 this season with a 2.50 GAA and a .917 save percentage. Let’s check out the odds and get into the picks.

Like I said before, stats wise – Calgary looks gross, but we’re backing them tonight. They play too well at home to not back them. I also really like Wolf in net tonight with the way he played the other night.
We should see a high scoring game since neither team is good on defense. I do lean the game total over for no other reason than I feel it in my plums. Both teams don’t put too many up a game, but I think the offenses will get grooving due to the scoring.
I like Nazem Kadri to record 3 or more shots on goal. He had 4 against the Sabres earlier in the year and also is coming off a miss, which I like. He had hit the 3 games prior. To be honest, I don’t really trust any of the Sabres players because there just hasn’t been any consistency so be careful!
