See Picks & Statistics For The GameGame 1 between the Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames was wild. 15 goals were scored in a 9-6 victory for Calgary. The game had the most goals in a postseason game in 29 years.
Calgary got things rolling right away, scoring on their first two shots within the first minute of the game. They followed those two goals up with another just over five minutes later. It was 3-0 in a heartbeat, and the Oilers were forced to pull starter Mike Smith.
The two goals scored within the first minute was the fastest two goals to start a game in NHL history. The home fans were in it from the start, and it made the comeback effort by the Oilers almost impossible.
Edmonton was able to tie the game back up at 6-6 in the third period. However, they never saw a lead in the game, and Calgary ran away with three unanswered goals in the final 17 minutes.
Heading into Game 2 of the series, both offenses have been electrified. In a series that we thought would be controlled by the goaltenders, offense has taken center stage. Calgary is the slight favorite at home for the second game in the Battle of Alberta.

Offensive Stars
In Game 1, we saw something unusual from the Calgary Flames: lots of offense in the postseason. The Flames had six different goal scorers in the game. The one who caught the most attention was Matthew Tkachuk.
Tkachuk had a hat trick in Game 1 and helped to put away the Oilers late. He now has 4 playoff goals to go along with 5 assists.
The Oilers did not go quietly. They had the game tied back up in the third period thanks to offensive production from Connor McDavid, Zach Hyman, and Kailer Yamamoto. These three combined for 4 goals and 4 assists in what could have been a much uglier game for Edmonton.
A fast start to Game 2 is expected. In 6 of the last 7 meetings between the Flames and Oilers, the Over 1.5 Period 1 goals has hit. With both teams having a scoring outbreak in Game 1, this trend is likely to continue.
Both goaltenders will want to forget the first game of the series. Game 2 is set to be another goal-filled battle, and I would certainly take the Over 6.5 goals to hit.
Oilers vs. Flames Prediction and Best Bets
Oilers vs. Flames Prediction: Flames 5, Oilers 4
Oilers vs. Flames Best Bets: Over 6.5 total goals (-115 at Bovada Sportsbook)
Both teams will have a fast start to Game 2. Expect a repeat of Game 1 when the two teams get together again on Friday night. Matthew Tkachuk and Connor McDavid will be the stars to watch as the teams battle it out in Calgary for the final time before the series shifts to Edmonton.
