See Picks & Statistics For The GameThe Capitals and Panthers have provided us with the shock of the first round so far. The Presidents’ Trophy winners are down 2 games to 1 in their best-of-seven series and still have one game to fight through in Washington before they head back home.
Game 3 of the series saw the Capitals’ offense completely steal the show. Their defense wasn’t half bad either.
The Panthers could only muster 1 goal in a 6-1 loss on the road. After Florida scored less than 3 minutes into the game, Washington’s defense and physical play dictated the pace of the game. The top offense in the league had no idea what hit them.
Heading into Game 4, the Panthers can’t take the Capitals lightly anymore. Washington has proven that they are a playoff caliber team with plenty of offense to match what the Panthers have been able to produce.
After going up 2-1 in the series, the odds have become a bit tighter for Monday night. Florida is still the slight favorite, and they can relish in the fact that neither team has been able to beat the other two times in a row this season. But with that in mind, they still have to focus and get the series tied before heading back home to FLA Live Arena.

Panthers Need a Repeat of Game 2
It’s hard to bet against the top offense in the league on any given night. However, with Florida’s inability to find the net during this series, it does raise some questions.
Part of the reason why the Panthers were shut down in Game 3 was the fact that Capitals’ goaltender Ilya Samsonov stood on his head multiple times and came up with big saves when it mattered the most. He stopped 29 of 30 shots en route to his first career playoff win.
However, in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, teams have proven that it takes elite company to have that solid of a performance in back-to-back games. In this series alone, the Panthers bounced back in Game 2 after a lackluster Game 1 on the offensive side.
Florida needs to take their Game 2 mentality into Game 4. This may be the most important game of the series. In NHL history, there have been over 300 instances of teams being down 3-1 in a playoff series. Only 26 times has the trailing team pulled out the series win.
Florida will treat this game as a “win or go home” scenario and find some offense when they need it. However, they will also need to sharpen their defense and take some pressure off of goaltender, Sergei Bobrovsky.
Panthers vs. Capitals Prediction and Best Bets
Panthers vs. Capitals Prediction: Panthers 4, Capitals 2
Panthers vs. Capitals Best Bets: Panthers -1.5 (+140 at Bovada Sportsbook and +138 at BetUS)
With the Panthers in what feels like a must win game, expect their offense to find another gear. At -1.5 I am confident that they can cover the spread and possibly even pull away from it.
Neither team has beaten the other twice in a row this season, which means it’s Florida’s turn to show what they are capable of. Nothing is a given in this sport, but with the trends pointing towards a Panthers win, it’s hard to go any other way in this matchup.
