See Picks & Statistics For The GameWednesday night was quiet in the NHL with only one game scheduled. Thursday’s lineup is the complete opposite with 11 games slated for tonight, including an inter-conference showdown between the New York Rangers and Edmonton Oilers at 9 p.m. ET.
The Rangers are searching for a third consecutive win after picking up Tuesday’s 3-1 win over the Calgary Flames. Meanwhile, the Oilers head into tonight’s contest riding a three-game losing streak following a 7-4 loss to the Minnesota Wild on the road.
Regardless of how both sides are performing, they’re expected to be championship threats this season. BetOnline lists Edmonton as having the eighth-best Stanley Cup odds (+1200) while New York is right behind in ninth (+1400).
Let’s not waste any more time and dive right into this Rangers vs. Oilers betting preview. Here are the latest NHL game odds, as well as my prediction and favorite betting picks for tonight.

Rangers vs Oilers Prediction & Pick (Oct. 26)
There’s no denying that the Oilers have been one of the biggest disappointments of the 2023-24 NHL season. A 1-4-1 record — good for second-last in the Pacific Division — is embarrassing for a team that’s supposed to be a Stanley Cup contender.
The Oilers’ struggles have only worsened during a three-game losing streak that’s seen them outscored 14-7 on aggregate. It doesn’t help that McDavid — who has eight points in five games — is sidelined for the next few weeks with an upper-body injury.
For reference, Edmonton is 1-5 straight up in the last six games McDavid has missed.
The situation wouldn’t be as bad if the rest of the Oilers’ lineup stepped up. There’s been little offensive production outside of McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, Zach Hyman, Evan Bouchard, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, and Warren Foegele.
The rest of the Oilers’ roster could struggle against a Rangers team that’s done well to keep the puck out of their net. New York is only surrendering 2.17 goals per game (No. 5), whereas Edmonton allows the second-most goals (4.5) league-wide.
All signs point to Igor Shesterkin starting again for the Rangers, per Daily Faceoff. While the Russian netminder’s .897 save percentage is below average, his 2.66 goals-against average and three quality starts are still impressive.
Meanwhile, the Oilers have been getting abysmal played between the pipes from Jack Campbell and Stuart Skinner. On top of the being just one win between them, the goaltending duo has combined for an .856 SV% and 4.33 GAA while allowing 8.7 goals above average.
It’s going to be hard for Edmonton to prevent goals if it can’t stop New York’s power play. The Rangers rank sixth in the NHL with a 30.0% power-play percentage and get to face the Oilers, who only have a 75.0% success rate on the penalty kill.
Considering how the Oilers are averaging 4.0 penalties per game at Rogers Place this season, chances are the Rangers’ PP will see some opportunities to shine tonight.

I’d expect a more competitive game if McDavid was playing, but that isn’t the case tonight. The Rangers are the more complete unit at the moment, backed by a reliable combination of depth and strong defense play.
Having said that, Edmonton still has enough talent to potentially keep things close, so let’s roll with New York on the moneyline instead of the spread.
Rangers vs Oilers Prediction: Rangers 4, Oilers 3
Best Bet: Rangers ML (-135 on BetDSI)
Rangers vs Oilers Player Prop
Turning over to BetOnline, I’m taking Mike Zibanejad to record 4+ shots on goal as the best Rangers vs. Oilers player prop.
The Swedish forward has done well at creating offensive chances, averaging 3.6 shots on goal over the last five games. Although that average is below this prop, he recorded at least four SOG twice — including a five-shot performance in his latest outing.
Considering that the Oilers allowed an average of 33.5 shots in their four previous outings, the makings are right for Zibanejad to come through on this prop.
Bet: Mika Zibanejad 4+ Shots on Goal (+131 on BetOnline)
