The Tampa Bay Lightning have lost two games in a row in the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2019. They also trail in a series 2-0 for the first time since that date. They are not accustomed to losing in the last 3 years, but the New York Rangers are giving them all they can handle.
In Game 2, the Rangers jumped out to a 3-1 lead early in the third period. Mika Zibanejad scored the third goal to extend his point streak to seven straight games. New York survived a late charge from the Lightning and held on for a 3-2 victory.
The Rangers have only lost one game at home during the Stanley Cup Playoffs. They made the most of their home ice advantage in this round, dealing two losses to the defending champions.
New York is using their underdog status to quietly fly under the radar. They are two wins away from the Stanley Cup Final. It would be their first trip back since 2014, when they were defeated by the Los Angeles Kings.
According to our recommended sportsbooks, Game 3 sees Tampa Bay as the favorite for the third straight time in the series. They are back at home for the first time in two weeks, and they will hope for a different result after getting shut down so far in the series.

Igor Shesterkin vs. Tampa Bay
Shesterkin has been sharp in the series against Tampa Bay. He has only allowed 4 goals through 2 games, and has stopped 66 shots from a strong Lightning offense.
Shesterkin has given up exactly 2 goals in each of his last 4 starts in the playoffs. The Rangers have won each time, dating back into the Carolina series.
He has a 10-5 record in the postseason, and when he gives up 3 goals or less, that record stands at 10-3. He has only had 3 games this postseason where more than 3 pucks got past him. Those 3 games came in their first round series against Pittsburgh.
Since the opening round, Shesterkin has been almost unbeatable. He has a goals against average under 2.00 since the start of the second round, and he has allowed 2 goals or less in 8 of his last 9 starts.
Tampa Bay will have home ice advantage for the next two games, but they will have to figure out a better way to challenge the New York netminder.
Rangers vs. Lightning Prediction and Best Bets
Rangers vs. Lightning Prediction: Rangers 2, Lightning 1
Rangers vs. Lightning Best Bets: Rangers on the moneyline (+150 at BetOnline and Bovada Sportsbook) and Under 5.5 goals (-130 at BetUS)
This matchup is set to be low scoring. With two solid goalies on each end, goals will be at a premium.
Shesterkin is looking for his 5th straight start allowing 2 goals or less, and it is very possible with the defense that the Rangers have assembled. The Rangers are hot right now, and they have proven to be a legit contender for the title.
The edge on the moneyline goes to New York in Game 3. The value is hard to pass up, and they are shutting down Tampa in the series. Don’t expect a shootout in this game. The Under provides the best value if you are looking at an Over/Under bet for this afternoon.
