Tampa Bay finally got back in the win column on Sunday night to cut the Rangers’ series lead to 2-1.
The Lightning rallied in Game 3 to erase a 2-0 New York lead. Nikita Kucherov started the scoring for Tampa, and Steven Stamkos followed suit just 12 minutes later. Ondrej Palat put in the game winner with 0:42 left in the third period, and Tampa hung on to grab their first win of the series.
The Lightning registered a whopping 52 shots on goal in Game 3, and they were eventually too much for the Rangers’ goaltender, Igor Shesterkin, to handle.
Shesterkin was still the bright spot for the Rangers, even though he allowed one past him with under a minute left. He stopped 49 shots on Sunday, and he kept New York in the game to the very end.
The Rangers will have to improve their scoring chances in Game 4 and limit opportunities for the Lightning. According to Bovada Sportsbook, Tampa is the favorite again. They have not been the underdog in the series, and they will hope for another strong performance to even the series.

Trends Heading Into Game 4
- The Lightning have won 8 of their last 9 games at home
- 7 of the Lightning’s last 8 games have gone Under the total goals line
- The Rangers have won the second period in 5 of their last 6 against Tampa Bay
- The Rangers have covered the puck line in their last 6 games against the Lightning
What to Take From the Trends
The Lightning are playing well at home in the playoffs. They have only lost one game at home during the postseason, and they have won 5 straight at Amalie arena. This home ice advantage in Game 4 should help them climb back into the series, much like they did in Game 3.
Goals are at a premium when the Lightning take the ice. They have a strong defense that is blocking a lot of shots and not allowing many scoring opportunities. 2 of the 3 games in this series have gone Under, and with two strong goaltenders on the ice in Game 4, this trend will likely hit again.
If the Rangers are losing games, they are only doing so by a goal. They are covering the puck line as the underdog, and their stellar play in the postseason has extended the trend against the Lightning.
Rangers vs. Lightning Prediction and Best Bets
Rangers vs. Lightning Prediction: Lightning 3, Rangers 2
Rangers vs. Lightning Best Bets: Lightning on the moneyline (-170 at Bovada Sportsbook) and Under 5.5 total goals (-124 at BetOnline)
The last two games between these teams have ended in 3-2 finals. Each team has a win to show, but the Lightning get to play at home again, where they have been solid. The game will be too close to take the spread for the Lightning, so the best bet is the moneyline.
Goaltending is the story in this series. It will continue to push the total goals mark down, and the Under will be hitting a lot. Even though the Under is expcted to hit, it is still the best bet to win.
