Eastern Conference
The East seems like it is the Boston Bruins to lose. After winning the President’s Trophy by a whopping 22 points, the Bruins take on the Florida Panthers in Round 1. The Lightning and Leafs square off in Round 1 once again, while the Hurricanes take on the top wild card Islanders. The Devils and Rangers face each other in a very anticipated matchup.
Predictions
Round 1
- Bruins over Islanders in 6
- Maple Leafs over Lightning in 7
- Panthers over Hurricanes in 7
- Rangers over Devils in 6
Conference Semifinals
- Bruins over Maple Leafs in 7
- Rangers over Panthers in 6
Conference Finals
- Bruins over Rangers in 7
This Boston team is something else and they are certainly hungry to lift the Cup. Although, there is something to be said about the President’s Trophy curse. I think the Rangers can give them a run for their money with their playoff experience, including an ECF run last year, losing to the Lightning in six games.
In somewhat of a down year for the defending ECF Champions, I do not think the Lightning have the same fire power they’ve had in the past. The Leafs are hungry to beat them after blowing a 3-2 series lead and losing at home. Plus, Toronto is eager to escape the first round and make a run in the playoffs.
Western Conference
Top Seed Vegas Golden Knights take on the Winnipeg Jets in Round 1. The Oilers and Kings square off for the second straight year, after Edmonton won it in seven last season. The defending Stanley Cup Champion Avalanche take on the Seattle Kraken in their programs first ever playoff appearance. Lastly, the Stars and Wild face off in what will be a fantastic series.
Predictions
Round 1
- Avalanche over Kraken in 7
- Stars over Wild in 6
- Knights over Jets in 7
- Oilers over Kings in 4
Conference Semifinals
- Avalanche over Stars in 6
- Oilers over Knights in 7
Conference Finals
- Oilers over Avalanche in 7
It is tough to pick against the defending Stanley Cup Champions, as well as the Top Seeded Golden Knights, but this Oilers team is stacked and playing great hockey. They ended the regular season on a 9 game win streak, winning 14 of their last 15, and winning 19 of their last 21 to end the season. Their nine game win streak includes two victories against the LA Kings, whom they face in the first round.
The Avalanche have struggled without Cale Makar, and the Knights face a tough Jets team in round 1, who were on top of the West at one point late in the season. Following a tough skid, Winnipeg will look to make some noise in the postseason.
Stanley Cup Finals
I think we see the Boston Bruins and Edmonton Oilers square off to hoist the Stanley Cup Trophy and be crowned Stanley Cup Champion. These two teams have been more than solid all year, and have solidified themselves as threats. I am hoping for a competitive, seven-game series, but alas, only one team can lift the Cup.
Edmonton Oilers over Boston Bruins in 7
This Edmonton team caught fire at the right time, and are tough to stop. With Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl on the offense, the Oilers put up a league leading 3.96 Goals per game. Those two skaters also led the league in points this regular season.
Stuart Skinner has stepped up to be this team’s number one option between the posts, and has done well in the spotlight. He allows less than 3 goals per game, and stops over 91% of shots.
Boston’s offense is electric as well, backed by some of the best skaters such as David Pastrnak, Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron. Linus Ullmark was one of the best goalies all season, leading the league in Goals Against Average (1.89) and Save Percentage (.938).
However, I do think the Oilers get it done.
Bonus Pick?
I have bet the Oilers in Regulation (-110) against the Kings in Game 1.
