Minnesota Wild vs St. Louis Blues Picks

<p>The St. Louis Blues will host the Minnesota Wild in Game 3 on Friday night. The series is now tied 1-1 after Minnesota bounced back with a dominating Game 2 victory.</p>
<p>After being shutout in Game 1, Minnesota wasted no time getting on the scoreboard in Game 2. They tallied 3 goals in the first period, and a fourth less than 1 minute into the second.</p>
<p>Minnesota goaltender, Marc-Andre Fleury, was excellent. He stopped 32 of 34 shots and held a shutout deep into the second period.</p>
<p>The offense ran through 25 year old Kirill Kaprizov. He had a hat trick in just 17 minutes of ice time.</p>
<p>The odds are showing the Blues as the favorites at home. However, Minnesota put together a complete game their last time out, and they are carrying lots of momentum into St. Louis.</p>

<h2 id="9tons">Running Wild in St. Louis</h2>
<p>Minnesota comes into Friday night with plenty of momentum and a visibly different team than in Game 1. Even though the Wild were outshot in Game 2, they made the most of their opportunities and went 2 for 3 on the power play. In the previous 4 games against St. Louis this season, Minnesota went 1 for 15 on the man advantage.</p>
<p>Two young stars shined in the Minnesota victory. Kirill Kaprizov and Joel Eriksson Ek, combined for 5 goals in Game 2.  At the other end of the ice, goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury, had a .941 save percentage, and he only allowed 2 pucks into the net.</p>
<p>The Blues found themselves in a 4-0 hole within 21 minutes of play. They had no answer until the end of the 2nd period. However, they were outscored in the third period again, and would ultimately fall 6-2.</p>
<p>Minnesota’s offense came alive in Game 2, and they may have the answer for St. Louis’ defense. They turned defense into offense in the first period by forcing turnovers and taking advantage of an unlucky broken stick by the Blues in the offensive zone.</p>
<p>Since the Wild finally figured out how to put goals on the scoreboard, I expect the trend to continue. Look for St. Louis to counter with offense of their own. After two blowouts in the first two games, I predict the teams will make adjustments and square off in a back-and-forth affair.</p>

<p>Both offenses know what they need to do in order to be successful. For the Wild, they need to continue scoring on the power play. For the Blues, they need to use home ice advantage to jump out to an early lead and kill Minnesota’s momentum.</p>
<p>I expect changes to be made for both teams. The offenses will be clicking tonight, and the defenses will have to survive until the end of the game. It would not surprise me to see the first overtime game of the series.</p>
