Can Leverkusen Cap Off Historic Season with UEL Title?

Bayer Leverkusen just won the Bundesliga Title for the first time in club history, solidifying their spot in the UEFA Champions League next year, but they still have one more match to go in this 2023-2024 campaign. Surely, they are eager to end this season on the highest of notes possible, and bring that momentum into their club’s campaign next year.

However, Atalanta will be no easy task. The Italian side have actually beaten Leverkusen both time they played back in the 2022 UEFA Europa League. Atalanta got the best of Leverkusen both times, winning 3-2 and then 1-0 in the Round of 16, and advancing to the Quarterfinals. However, that was before Xabi Alonso took over the role as manager at the club.

Since then, he has certainly turned things around.

Atalanta secured 5th in the Serie A standings, and are just 3 points away from 3rd place with two games remaining. Regardless, they will play in the extended UEFA Champions League tournament next year, with Italy potentially getting a 6th team if Atalanta can win tonight. Plenty is on the line between these two teams, but only one can lift the trophy and be crowned UEFA Europa League Champions.

With Leverkusen being as dominant as they have, I am very hesitant to back Atalanta at all. Leverkusen have netted goals in every match since the end of January, and they have not lost all year long. They have won, or drawn, but never lost in over 50 matches played this season amongst the Bundesliga, German DFB Pokal, and the UEFA Europa League.

I think both teams find the back of the net tonight, and rather than bet on a side or the over, I’ll opt to place my money this way. This could very well end in a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes, which would stay under 2.5 but entail our BTTS bet is a winner.

Leverkusen is going to score. Plain and simple. But I think Atalanta has the firepower to find the back of the net as well. When Leverkusen has seen decent opponent’s recently, they’ve been conceding plenty of goals.
