The final soccer match of the 2024 Olympics happens this morning as the Women battle it out for the Gold Medal. Brazil takes on the United States in what seems to be a slightly lopsided match. The United States are 5-0 in this tournament, sweeping their group with ease, but needing extra time to get past both Japan and Germany in the knockout rounds. As for Brazil, they advanced as the 3rd place finisher in their group, and pulled off some upsets in bracket play. Brazil lost to both Japan and Spain in group stage play, but upset the hosts, France, and then recorded some revenge on Spain, beating them 4-2 in the Semifinals.
Both teams have guaranteed some hardware for their squads, but only one can go home with the Gold. Can the Brazillians pull off another huge upset against the #5 team in the world and claim their first ever Gold Medal? Or will the United States add to their tally, winning a 5th Gold at this year’s Olympic games?

Does Brazil Stand a Chance?
At the beginning of bracket play, I would’ve said no, they don’t stand a chance. They did not look good in their group stage matches, and I had little faith in Brazil going forward. But then they pulled off two huge upsets, beating France and Spain, and now I have a little faith in them. At the same time, I am losing faith in the United States. Not necessarily their back line, which has been rock solid all tournament, but their attack. They’ve failed to put away chances like they were doing at will in group stage. Teams are looking to play very conservative and defensive against the United States, but ultimately, they are -250 to win Gold for a reason.
While Brazil had trouble scoring in the group stage matches, that hasn’t been the case recently, as they’ve netted 5 goals in their L2 games after scoring just twice in the group. However, the United States backline is rock solid and has allowed just 2 goals in all 5 Olympic matches. In this game, I think Brazil is simply outmatched, and I think it will show very quickly.
Like I said, teams have been very defensive against the United States and for good reason. Brazil should be no different. After seeing Japan and Germany force extra time, I expect Brazil to have a similar strategy. Holding on defensively for as long as they can, hopefully 90 minutes, and then trying to sneak in a winner in extra time. Because of this, I see the United States dominating possession, creating plenty of chances, and not giving Brazil even a sniff of a scoring opportunity. In this match, I will be backing the American backline above all else.

Now, this is a 90 minute bet, which is why I went with the United States to keep a clean sheet. This is the same bet as Brazil TT Under 0.5, and in this scenario, we do not need the United States to win. Just Brazil to not score. While I do think the US gets it done in 90 minutes, for plus money I will certainly take the extra cushion in case they need extra time to net one.
Germany was able to force 7 shots on target in both matches against the US, but in the other 3 combined, the United States only allowed 6 total SOTs. This includes holding Japan to just 1 shot on target in 120 minutes of play. I think this backline wins the game for the United States tonight, and I am more than confident they can keep a shut out for plus money.
