Manchester Derby in the English FA Cup Final
This is actually a repeat of last year’s FA Cup Final, where Manchester City beat Manchester United 2-1. City saw two goals from Ilkay Gündoğan in the 1st and 51st minutes, along with a Bruno Fernandes penalty in between for United. Will we see something similar tomorrow?
We’ve seen 7 of the L8 FA Cup Finals stay under 3.5 total goals, including the past four. The one outlier is Man City’s 6-0 routing of Watford in 2019. Nevertheless, these Cup Finals tend to be grunge matches, especially one that involve such a rich rivalry. Man United have 12 total FA Cup Titles, with the most recent being in 2016. They lost to City twice in the Premier League and in last year’s Cup Final to drop three straight against their Derby Foe. Man City is also unbeaten since December 6th.
You read that correctly. Machester City has not lost a game outright since December 6th, 2023 at Aston Villa, 1-0. Since then, they have won or drawn in 35 straight games, and they’ve actually won their last 7 outright.
United ended the season winning two straight games, but they were more than shaky all season long, eventually finishing 8th in the Premier League. They were the highest placed team with a negative goal differential on the season. With this being the last game of both team’s long season, and a Cup Final, I expect some fantastic football to be played on the pitch, and for the stars to shine.
I certainly side with City, assuming they don’t sit all their starters. Coming off an EPL Title, they should want to add as much hardware to the trophy case as they can. Based on the line, Vegas thinks exactly that is going to happen. However, I don’t think it get’s too out of hand.
FA Cup Title Best Bets
Best Bets: City/United Under 3.5 (-130) BetOnline
This game has 2-1 written all over it. Let me just tell you what’s gonna happen.
Manchester City will certainly net at least one in the first half, probably within the first 20 or so minutes. They are going to come out firing on all cylinders, and they’ve scored in the first half hour in 4 of their L7 matches. After that Manchester United will be forced to play forward, trying to equalize, and City will be able to score again, making it 2-nil. From there, Manchester City will dominate possession, playing keep away from United, and not giving them a chance to catch up.
But of course, United will somehow find a way to give all their fans hope in the 85th minute (or later), but alas, it will be too late.
Give me a 2-1 Manchester City victory (+700), staying Under 3.5. Don’t be afraid, Pay the Juiceman.
