We got the annual showdown in Manchester, so let’s talk about it. City (18-5-3) is sitting 2nd in the table while United (14-2-10) is in 6th. United is 6 points out of 5th place behind Tottenham.
Manchester City has been having themselves a year defending the crown. They’re 4 points out of 1st place and are 4-1-0 in their last 5 matches.
City’s star Erling Haaland has been back from injury and heating up. He has 17 goals and 5 assists on 42 shots on target this season.
Haaland is coming off a 5-goal match where he just could not stop scoring. Previous to the FA Cup game, he had only 3 goals in 7 matches since his return.
On offense, City ranks in the top 3 of 5 categories: shots on target, shots taken, goals forced, passes and passes completed. They have a goal differential of +33 which is 3rd best in the league.

Manchester United is a different team this year. Last year they were a top team in the league. Not that 6th is bad, but they were a top 3 team.
Guys like Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes have not been what they were last year – especially for Rashford. He only has 5 goals on the year compared to his 17 goals last season.
Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho have become key players on the team. Hojlund is tied for the team lead in goals with 7.
United is really going to need to play a tight game. Their defense will need to be on top of their game to slow down City.
Although it’s not their field, this is kind of like a home game for both squads since it’s the same city. It’s like when the Yankees and Mets play each other in baseball.

Manchester City has been so good all year. Even when Haaland was out, they still managed to find ways to win. Guys like Phil Foden and Rodri have stepped up.
City has been dominating this year and has home field advantage. I honestly think they destroy United. United is not the same team they were a year ago.
For United to win, guys like Marcus Rashford will need to come to play. He has been nowhere to be found this year compared to last. United will also be without Rasmus Hojlund who has been great this season. They will be hurting without him.
I expect Haaland to have a solid game, leading his team to a win. He should net one in and have at least 4 shots. If 1 goes in, we only need another on target.
United’s defense isn’t the worst. They will need to play a very tight game and keep it close. I don’t think they can, which is why we’re back Haaland and Man City.
