Despite their point deduction, Canada has won all three matches of this Olympic tournament. They beat New Zealand 2-1, France 2-1, and then shutout Colombia 1-0. Only two other teams swept their group, and Germany was not one of them. Even though they were arguably in an “easier” group, Germany did finish 2nd, but they were blown out by the United States. Not a great sign, considering Canada is about as good a squad as they are.
Point being, I think Germany took it a bit too light in group stage, and now they face a team that is wanting to shove it where the sun don’t shine. Canada took their point deduction on the chin, and still finished 2nd in their group. They’ve made it this far, and now I think we see intangibles and extra motivation come into play, something. they have and Germany lacks. Now, keep in mind this is just a 90 minute bet, so as long as they force extra time or walk away victorious, we will cash our bet. For this price, I think this is a no-brainer bet in my opinion.

For even money, I’ll bet on France handling business and holding Brazil scoreless. I think France dominates this game and eventually wins 2-0 (+600), but I’ll just bet on the under. France to keep a clean sheet (+150) and to win to nil (+200) are both tempting, but I don’t need to get greedy, even money for the under will get the job done. France hasn’t had much problem scoring, netting 6 goals in 3 matches so far. They lost to Canada in the 90’+12′, and they battled back when they were all square with New Zealand to win that match and the group. Ultimately, I trust France’s defense so shutdown whomever Brazil throws at them.
Brazil will also be missing Marta, who even though she is getting older, still has a big impact on the pitch. Her offensive fire will be missed, especially by a team that has scored just twice this entire tournament. Despite two losses and a win in group stage, Brazil was able to sneak into the Quarterfinals as a third place team. I think tonight their luck runs out and France sits them down.
