The 2022 US Open starts on Monday, and as with the first Grand Slam on this year’s tennis calendar, Novak Djokovic won’t be present.
There wasn’t as much public drama surrounding his tournament status this time around, but all speculation and suspense was put to rest today when it was announced that he would not be able to travel to the United States and take part in the tournament due to not having his COVID-19 vaccine.
Here’s a look at the latest men’s singles odds following the news that Djokovic will not be in the field.

While we won’t get to see this year’s Wimbledon champion pursue a 22nd Grand Slam singles title, we are still very much set for an action-packed tournament.
In the US Open men’s singles draw, many eyes will be on top seed, world number one, and defending champion Daniil Medvedev and 22-time Grand Slam singles champion Rafael Nadal, the #2 seed.
Nadal is currently ranked third but is the tournament’s #2 seed, as Djokovic will not be on the only high-profile absence at the tournament.
After tearing multiple ligaments in his knee in his French Open semifinal matchup with Rafael Nadal, world number two Alexander Zverev missed Wimbledon and will also miss the US Open as he continues to recover from his injury.
Speaking of injury, it has had an effect on Medvedev’s year, as he missed several weeks during the spring clay swing because of hernia surgery. But his only missed major was Wimbledon, which Russian and Belarusian players were banned from.
Injury has also affected Nadal’s year, as it ruined his shot at a calendar-year Grand Slam and a potential Djokovic-Nadal championship showdown at Wimbledon.
But he will be in action next week at Flushing. Nadal made his return to play at last week’s Masters 1000 event in Cincinnati, where he lost in three sets to surprise champion Borna Coric in the round of 32.
Here are the tournament seeds and potential matchups for the fourth round and beyond.

There are a number of intriguing potential matchups to look ahead to.
Another headline maker could scupper Medvedev’s hopes to become the first repeat men’s singles champion at the US Open since Roger Federer five-peated from 2004 to 2008.
Nick Kyrgios had a long-awaited Grand Slam breakthrough at Wimbledon, reaching the final where he lost to Djokovic. And despite being the #23 seed in the draw, he is one of the favorites to win the tournament and could meet Medvedev in the fourth round.
Kyrgios continues to be in the headlines for reasons other than his on-court exploits, as he faces assault charges for allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend last year.
Another potential tricky matchup for a tournament favorite could see Alcaraz meet Cincinnati champ Coric in the third round. An Alcaraz-Nadal clash in the semifinals is a mouthwatering prospect, but Coric will be eyeing a US Open run after his stunning week in Ohio.
