After a disappointing week last week in Sweden, Casper Ruud has gotten back in business on his best surface this week in Gstaad, Switzerland.
Tomorrow, the French Open finalist will face off against Matteo Berrettini in the final of the ATP Swiss Open, with both players looking for a third title in 2022.
Last week at the Swedish Open in Bastad, Sweden, Ruud was the defending champion and top seed but fell 4-6, 6-3, 5-7 in his first match to the tournament’s eventual winner, Francisco Cerundolo.
But as the defending champion and top seed again this week in Gstaad, he has made his run to the final without dropping a set. In Saturday’s semis, he breezed past #4 seed Albert Ramos Vinolas 6-2, 6-0 in just 63 minutes.
In the final, he will look to go back-to-back at the Swiss Open against #2 seed Berrettini, who took his current win streak to a dozen matches with an impressive 6-1, 6-4 win over Dominic Thiem.
Berrettini is looking to win his third straight tournament after claiming back-to-back titles on grass last month.

Casper Ruud vs. Matteo Berrettini Prediction and Picks
Ruud Looks to Claim Yet Another ATP 250 Clay Crown
This is by far Ruud’s favorite surface, and the majority of his success on the ATP Tour has come at clay tournaments of this level.
Of his eight career ATP titles, seven have come in ATP 250 clay events. That includes last year’s title in Gstaad, which he captured with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Hugo Gaston.
In his career, Ruud is 7-2 in ATP 250 clay finals, losing to Cristian Garin at the U.S. Clay Court Championships in 2019 and the Chile Open to Thiago Seyboth Wild in 2020.
Since that loss in Chile, Ruud has won seven straight ATP 250 finals, six on clay and the other a hard-court win at the San Diego Open last October.
If he can beat Berrettini, he will become the first repeat champion at the Swiss Open since two-time French Open champion Sergi Bruguera won three straight titles from 1992 to 1994.
Berrettini Aims for a Baker’s Dozen of Wins
Berrettini has been limited to just eight tournaments this year due to a hand injury and COVID-19, the latter of which kept him out of Wimbledon.
But when he has been on the court, things have gone pretty well for him for the most part. He reached the semifinals of the Australian Open in January, and he is a win away from making it three tournament titles in three appearances.
Of Berrettini’s seven career ATP Tour titles, three have come on clay, and all three have been ATP 250 tournaments.
His very first ATP Tour title came at this very tournament four years ago, when he defeated Roberto Bautista Agut 7-6 (11-9), 6-4 in the final. As an unseeded player, he defeated three seeded players–#4 Andrey Rublev, #8 Feliciano Lopez, and #2 Bautista Agut–on the way to his maiden main tour title.
Berrettini’s most recent title on clay was in April 2021, when he defeated Aslan Karatsev 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (7-0) in the final.
This is the Italian’s first appearance at this tournament since he won it in 2018, as he didn’t play in it in 2019 and 2021, and it wasn’t held in 2020 due to the pandemic. So, he has won eight straight matches in Gstaad.
Ruud vs. Berrettini Prediction and Picks
Berrettini may not be 100 percent at the moment, but it hasn’t stopped him from being able to make another run in Gstaad.
That said, Ruud is the superior player on this surface, and in my look at the tournament, he was my pick to take the title. Nothing has happened this week to make me waver from that. Look for the Norwegian to complete his repeat run and claim yet another ATP 250 title on clay.
