It has not been the ideal start to 2022 for Novak Djokovic, for multiple reasons. But ominously for his upcoming opponents, the world number might have found his form at home in Belgrade. Today, Djokovic goes for his first title of 2022 as he meets Andrey Rublev in the Serbia Open final.
Djokovic has not been at his ruthless best in Belgrade, but that is to be expected when he had played only four competitive matches in 2022 entering his home tournament.
He has dropped the first set in all three of his Serbia Open matches, against compatriots Laslo Djere and Miomir Kecmanovic and #3 seed Karen Khachanov of Russia.
But he has rallied to win all three matches, setting up a final showdown with #2 seed Rublev, who he will be meeting for the first time on clay and just the second time overall.
Rublev needed three sets and a second-set tiebreak to navigate his first match against Jiri Lehecka, but he enters the final with back-to-back straight-sets wins over Taro Daniel and Fabio Fognini.
This will be Rublev’s 16th career ATP singles final, but just the fourth on clay, joining two finals in Hamburg (lost in 2019, won in 2020) and the 2021 Monte-Carlo Masters final (lost to Stefanos Tsitsipas).
By comparison, this will be Djokovic’s 124th career ATP singles final and his 31st on clay.
Who will take the Serbia Open title? Let’s take a look at the match odds and other important info.

Djokovic vs. Rublev Prediction and Picks
Can Rublev Finish Where Others Haven’t?
Though the Serbia Open field is not nearly as strong as the Barcelona Open draw, it is never not a good achievement to reach a final on a surface that is not your best. So, Rublev has certainly done well to reach the final in Belgrade.
But can he clear the final hurdle and take down Djokovic on his own turf? Djere, Kecmanovic, and Khachanov all had a chance to but failed to get the job done after claiming the first set.
But he is the king of creating and then cruelly crushing hope, as we have seen time and time and time again over his long and decorated career.
This will likely go one of two ways. Either Djokovic, buoyed by his three straight comeback wins, will wipe the floor with Rublev. Or Rublev will take the first set and have the same opportunity to finish the job as Djere, Kecmanovic, and Khachanov did.
I lean toward the latter scenario. Whether or not he takes advantage of the opportunity is the million-dollar question.
