After a week and a half of exciting matches in London, only four players remain standing in the Wimbledon 2023 men’s singles draw. And if you were hoping to see the best of the best duke it out for the third Grand Slam title of the tennis season, you will get your wish.
In Friday’s matchups at the All-England Club, top seed and world number one Carlos Alcaraz will meet third seed Daniil Medvedev in one semifinal showdown, while #2 seed and 23-time Grand Slam singles champion Novak Djokovic will take on #8 seed Jannik Sinner.
Sinner is more or less the odd man out in the final quartet. He is the lowest seed remaining in the Wimbledon men’s singles draw and doesn’t own a Grand Slam singles title, and this will be his first appearance in a Grand Slam singles semifinal.
Are we in for a final face-off between Alcaraz and Djokovic? Or can Sinner pull off a stunner to end Djokovic’s calendar-year Grand Slam hopes?
Below, I will take a look at a both of Friday’s matchups, but first, let’s take a look at the odds for each match, courtesy of Bovada.

Wimbledon Men’s Singles Semifinals Predictions and Picks
Carlos Alcaraz vs Daniil Medvedev Prediction & Picks
This will be the third all-time meeting between Alcaraz and Medvedev. Their first came in the second round at Wimbledon two years ago, with Medvedev winning 6-4, 6-1, 6-2..
The result of their next meeting at the Indian Wells final in March shows just how far Alcaraz has come since then, as he swept aside Medvedev 6-3, 6-2.
Another sign is the easy, breezy way that Alcaraz has advanced to the semifinals. To this point, grass has been his least favorite surface. But he won his first career grass title last month at the Queen’s Club Championships and has dropped only two sets in his first five matches at Wimbledon.
Carlos Alcaraz vs Daniil Medvedev Head-to-Head Results
- 2021 Wimbledon (second round): Medvedev won 6-4, 6-1, 6-2
- 2023 Indian Wells Masters (final): Alcaraz won 6-3, 6-2
As is the case with Alcaraz, this is also the first time that Medvedev has advanced beyond the fourth round at Wimbledon, though this is Alcaraz’s third attempt and Medvedev’s sixth.
So, his game has also taken a leap, but with Alcaraz earmarked as the future of the game and Djokovic setting new records and challenging for a calendar-year Grand Slam, Medvedev isn’t really getting a lot of hype right now.
The 2021 US Open champion advanced to the Wimbledon semis with a five-set win over surprise American quarterfinalist Christopher Eubanks, coming back from two sets to one down and dispatching Eubanks 6-1 in the fifth set.
It will take another level for him to take Alcaraz with the way that the Spaniard has been playing at Wimbledon, but I think we will see a much more competitive match than their encounter at Indian Wells earlier this year.
Alcaraz was done in by cramps in his French Open semifinal loss to Djokovic, so you do have to wonder how he might fare if Medvedev pushes him to five sets. But he survived a four-hour match with Nicolas Jarry earlier in the third round, which is a positive sign.
I expect this match to go longer than the other semifinal, and as much as I love how Alcaraz has been playing, I’m liking the potential for the underdog to come out on top.
Give me Medvedev to take the win, and I’m backing the over 39.5 games and Medvedev +4 games.
Jannik Sinner vs Novak Djokovic Prediction and Picks
Since last year’s Wimbledon quarterfinals, this might be the moment that Sinner has been waiting for. But can he take advantage of it?
Last year, he took the first two sets against Djokovic. But in a scenario that has played out numerous times on the way to 23 Grand Slam singles titles, Djokovic stormed back for a 5-7, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3, 6-2 win.
Djokovic, for all of his greatness, is beatable. He isn’t invincible by any means. But maintaining a high level and closing him out after taking a lead is a difficult task that eludes even the best of the best. He feeds off of adversity, whether real or manufactured adversity.
Jannik Sinner vs Novak Djokovic Head-to-Head Results
- 2021 Monte-Carlo Masters (second round): Djokovic won 6-4, 6-2
- 2022 Wimbledon (quarterfinals): Djokovic won 5-7, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3, 6-2
So, has Sinner learned and grown enough in the past year to be able to do what he didn’t do last year? In the US Open quarters, he was in a similar position, leading Alcaraz two sets to one. But once again, he couldn’t seal the deal, as Alcaraz, the eventual tournament champion, rallied for a 6-3, 6-7 (7-9), 6-7 (0-7), 7-5, 6-3 win.
Djokovic has lost a set in each of his last two matches, dropping the third set against Hubert Hurkacz in a challenging fourth-round match and the opening set of his quarterfinal with Andrey Rublev.
I think Sinner can do the same, and I think he can even take two sets off of him like he did last year. With that in mind, I’m jumping on the over 36.5 games, though I am stopping short of recommending Sinner to cover the games spread.
But as for the result, it’s hard for me to see anything other than a Djokovic win, when all is said and done.
