After finishing over .500 for the first time since moving to the Lone Star State, the Dallas Wings are the #4 seed in the WNBA playoffs. It is imperative for the Wings to get the postseason off to a winning start and make the most of that lofty seed, and the Wings will be looking to do that in Game 1 against the visiting Atlanta Dream (9:30 pm ET, ESPN2).
In the regular season, the Wings went 22-18, finishing three games ahead of Atlanta and the Minnesota Lynx to claim the fourth seed behind the Las Vegas Aces, New York Liberty, and Connecticut Sun.
Three of those 22 wins, three came against Atlanta, who they swept in the regular season. Will that success continue into the playoffs?

How Will Dallas Handle Unfamiliar Pressure at Home?
This will be the sixth time that the Wings have qualified for the playoffs in eight seasons in Dallas, and they are looking to advance beyond the first time since reaching the conference finals in 2009, the franchise’s last season in Detroit.
So, Dallas is a bit of an unfamiliar position entering this best-of-three series, which will continue and perhaps conclude with Game 2 on Tuesday (9:00 pm ET, ESPN).
A win in Game 1 would put the Wings within a win of moving to a matchup with either the #1 Las Vegas Aces or #8 Chicago Sky, and they should be expected to get it.
In the regular season, Dallas defeated Atlanta three times, twice at home and once on the road. The first home win and the road win bookended the regular season, as the Wings beat the Dream 85-78 at home to start the season on May 20 and 94-77 on the road to wrap up the season on five days ago.
Atlanta Dream vs Dallas Wings Head-to-Head Results in the 2023 WNBA Season
- May 20 (at Dallas): Wings 85-78 Dream
- June 20 (at Dallas): Wings 85-73 Dream
- September 10 (at Atlanta): Wings 94-77 Dream
In all three wins, Arike Ogunbowale and Natasha Howard played key roles. Howard averaged 19.3 PPG, 7.7 RPG, and 3.3 APG, while Ogunbowale averaged 26.7 PPG, including a 32-point performance in last Sunday’s regular season finale.
If they produce against Atlanta again, the Dream are likely to find themselves facing elimination come Tuesday night.
In the regular season, they did not fare well against the top teams in the WNBA, going 2-6 SU on the road and 2-13 overall against the Aces, Wings, New York Liberty, and Connecticut Sun.
Atlanta Dream vs Dallas Wings Prediction and Picks
Prediction: Wings to win
Picks: Wings -6.5 (-110 at Bovada) & Dream team total under 82.5 points (-125 at Bovada)
In their 15 regular season games against the Aces, Liberty, Sun, and Wings, the Dream scored 83 or more points just six times, including three times in eight road games. That had a hand in why 12 of their 13 losses in those games were by seven or more points, including all six road losses.
