The Las Vegas Aces have tasted defeat on only four occasions this season, but each time, they have responded resoundingly in their next game. After doing so on Tuesday night against the Atlanta Dream, the WNBA’s best team looks to dominate again as they visit the Chicago Sky tonight (8:00 pm ET, NBA TV).
After suffering their first home loss of the season this past Saturday against the Los Angeles Sparks, the Aces (29-4, 13-3 away) rebounded with a 112-100 win over the Atlanta Dream on Tuesday.
History was made in the performance, as A’ja Wilson tied the league’s single-game scoring record with 53 points.
More history could be made tonight, as Las Vegas could become the first team in WNBA history to win 30 games in one season, eclipsing the Phoenix Mercury’s 29 wins in 2014.
The 2023 season is the longest in the league’s history, but if the Aces win tonight, they will reach 30 wins in the same number of games the Mercury needed to reach 29 wins in the 34-game 2014 season.
Will the Sky (13-20, 6-11 home) play the spoiler role tonight and pick up an important win? They enter tonight’s WNBA action a game and a half out of the eighth and final playoff spot.

A’ja and the Aces Aim for Another Astounding Achievement
The Aces may not be able to match the 2001 Los Angeles Sparks and 2010 Seattle Storm as the only two teams in WNBA history to go undefeated at home, and with one more loss, they won’t match the 1998 Houston Comets for the highest single-season win percentage.
But this team is currently on course to be in the conversation for the best team in WNBA history, and performances like Tuesday night’s are a big reason for it.
Wilson was the star of the show, making 16 of 23 shots from the field and 20 of 21 free throws, but Chelsea Gray came within a rebound of her second triple-double in three games, and Kelsey Plum recorded her 14th 20-point performance of the season.
Yet again, the defending WNBA champions provided the best possible response to a loss.
Las Vegas Aces in Games Following a Loss This Season
- June 11: 93-80 win vs Chicago (lost 94-77 at Connecticut on June 8)
- July 9: 113-89 win at Minnesota (lost 80-78 at Dallas on July 7)
- August 8: 104-84 win at Dallas (lost 99-61 at New York on August 6)
- August 22: 112-100 win at Atlanta (lost 78-72 vs Los Angeles on August 19)
Each time they have lost this season, they have won by double digits in the following game. Tuesday’s win at Atlanta was the third 100-point performance in those four games, and it was their ninth 100-point performance of the season.
One of those nine 100-point games came in their previous visit to Wintrust Arena, a 107-95 win on July 25. In that win, the Aces had three players hit the 20-point mark, led by Plum’s 27.
One of Vegas’s other wins following a loss this season came against Chicago, a 93-80 win at Michelob Ultra Arena. In that game, all five Aces starters scored 10+ points, led by Wilson’s 21.
Will we see similar results tonight in the Windy City?
The Sky throttled the Seattle Storm 102-79 on Tuesday night to snap a five-game losing streak, but don’t count on a repeat performance. That was just Chicago’s second win in their last nine home games, and they have won back-to-back home games just once all season.
Of course, anything can happen on any given night. Few would have forecast the Sparks to go into Michelob Ultra Arena and beat the Aces last Saturday, even though they are in the midst of a five-game win streak.
Las Vegas Aces vs Chicago Sky Prediction and Picks
Aces vs Sky Picks: Aces team total over 92.5 (-115 at Bovada) & Aces/Sky over 170.5 (-115 at Bovada)
In Tuesday’s win over the Storm, the Sky shot 50.6% in scoring 100+ points for the fifth time this season. But they have been too inconsistent on the offensive end to be trusted in this spot.
The Aces have 23 double-digit wins this season, including each of their last 13 wins. Expect another one tonight, but with the spread beyond two touchdowns, totals are the plays being targeted here. Both of those numbers were eclipsed in the first two Aces vs Sky matchups this season and will be again tonight.
