Other than an ugly loss at Minnesota, the Seattle Storm have been on fire over the last few weeks. This afternoon, they will look to win for the ninth time in ten games as they visit the Phoenix Mercury (3:00 pm ET, ABC).
The Storm (9-4) had their six-game win streak snapped in sound fashion by the Minnesota Lynx last Sunday, but they have responded by hitting the 90-point mark twice in wins over the Los Angeles Sparks and Dallas Wings.
The Mercury (6-6), meanwhile, are coming off a real missed opportunity against the Las Vegas Aces. After a quarter, they were up 16. But the two-time defending WNBA champions outscored them 42-23 in the second quarter then kept them just out of reach in the second half in a 103-99 win.
When Seattle and Phoenix met at Climate Pledge Arena a dozen days ago, the Storm jumped out to an early double-digit lead and made it stand up in an 80-62 win. Is a similar result in the cards for today’s rematch at the Footprint Center?

Seattle Storm vs Phoenix Mercury Betting Analysis
Thus far this season, Phoenix’s results against the WNBA’s best teams have been quite a mixed bag. They defeated the Aces at Michelob Ultra Arena and have played them close in their other two matchups, knocked off the Lynx at home, and played the Liberty close at the Barclays Center.
However, in addition to their 18-point loss in Seattle, they scored a season-low 47 points in a 23-point loss at Connecticut and lost by 24 at Minnesota.
Which performance will we get from Phoenix today? They are 4-2 at home and 2-5 on the road, and their worst home result, a 107-92 loss to the Dallas Wings on May 25, required a 40-piece and seven threes by Arike Ogunbowale to help Dallas come out on top.
So, we should see another strong home performance by Phoenix. But will it be enough for the Mercury to move back to the .500 mark?
Phoenix should at least have more success on the offensive end the first time around against Seattle, when they were only 4 of 23 (17.4%) from three and shot only 33.8% from the field overall.
At home, the Mercury are averaging 88.3 points per game and have scored at least 81 points in each game. Also, they have scored 81, 97, and 99 points since Brittney Griner’s return from injury.
But things are a bit lacking on the defensive end, where they have given up 80+ points in 11 of 13 games, including five of their six home games.
That will prove to be their undoing this afternoon. As I have noted in a couple of prior pieces about Seattle, the Storm have fared very well when scoring 80 points in regulation. Thursday’s 92-84 win at Dallas took them to a perfect 7-0 SU when scoring 80+ points in regulation, and they are 6-1 ATS in those seven games.
