We have a great Eastern Conference matchup on our hands with the Washington Mystics taking on the New York Liberty. The Liberty are the 2nd seed, and the Mystics are the 7th seed.
These 2 teams have met 4 times this year, splitting the games 2-2. The Mystics won the most recent game by 2 points, and it was the last game of the season.
New York transformed into a powerhouse this year after making major moves in the off season. They have a core 4 that has been unstoppable this year and finished with a record of 32-8.
Brenna Stewart, Jonquel Jones, and Courtney Vandersloot were all brought in to join Sabrina Ionescu and take over the Eastern Conference…and they did just that.
The Liberty finished 2nd in points per game, 1st in 3-point field goals and 3-point field goals percentage, 1st in assists and 2nd in rebounding per game.
Stewart has put on an MVP performance this year averaging 23 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. She started all 40 games this year and is in the top running for league MVP.
Washington had a rough go for the middle of the season fighting injuries. They finished below .500 with a record of 19-21, but still contended and stayed in playoff contention.
The Mystics were missing Elena Delle Donne, Ariel Atkins and Shakira Austin all missed significant amount of time. Delle Donne missed 17 games, Atkins 13 games and Austin 21 games.
Brittney Skyes and Natasha Cloud are the 2 main reasons why the Mystics are here as they both stepped up to fill the void. Cloud only missed 3 games and Skyes started every game.
The Mystics struggled this year rebounding and shooting percentage. The ranked 10th in the league in rebounds per game and shot only 42.8% from the field.
The history between the 2 teams will help Washington, but they will be facing an extremely hungry New York team who has been waiting all year for this time.

Washington Mystics vs New York Liberty Prediction and Picks
Pick: New York Liberty -9.5 (-110)
Like I had said, this team has been waiting all year for this time. They are built for this and are more than ready to take down whoever is in front of them.
This team is on a mission and that is to win it all. They are going to do whatever it takes to win that championship.
Expect Stewart to be shooting and crashing the boards along with Jones. Ionescu will try and get them started early with some big 3’s. Vandersloot will be all over dishing the ball around.
The Mystics have shown they can compete with the Liberty, but New York’s drive will overpower that. On home court, the Liberty were 15-5 this season. They also just played each other which gives the Liberty time to come with a new attack.
I’m not surprised this line is where it is due to how much better the Liberty are. They have played close games this year, but playoff Liberty will be activated. I’m excited to see them come out and make another statement this year.
Player Prop: Sabrina Ionescu O17.5 Points (-120)
The heart of the team is their point guard Sabrina Ionescu. The home grown Ionescu was drafted to NY and has been waiting for a team like this. This will be her first chance to possible win a championship.
She averaged 17 points per game this season, so the line is right where it should be. Ionescu just had 20 points in their loss to the Mystics last week.
Despite the loss, she showed out like she has all year. She has hit this line in 3 of her last 5 games and last 6 out of 8 games.
I expect her to be all over the floor and contributing everywhere. She has hit this line in her last 3 out of 4 games vs Washington, so I expect her to be shooting again.
This is a good number without too much juice. I think we cash this line without a problem and meet at the cash counter.
