Tuesday’s MLB All-Star Game wasn’t the only All-Star Game on the calendar this week in American professional sports. Tonight, the WNBA All-Star Game will take place at Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas, the home of the Aces, the best team in the league.
The WNBA All-Star Game first took place in 1999, and this year’s game will be the 19th. In Olympic years (2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, and 2020), the game has not taken place.
Until recently, the WNBA All-Star Game had the same East vs West format that the NBA All-Star Game had.
But in 2018, the NBA adopted its current format, which involves two team captains selecting their teams from the list of All-Star representatives, and the WNBA followed suit that year.
Last year, the two team captains were A’ja Wilson and Breanna Stewart, and Team Wilson triumphed 134-112 over Team Stewart at Wintrust Arena in Chicago.
This year, Stewart and Wilson are once again the All-Star captains, as the two WNBA MVP favorites were rewarded for their outstanding play this season by topping the voting.
Will Wilson and her squad put on a show in her home arena? Or will Team Stewart take the win? My WNBA All-Star Game prediction and picks are below, but first, let’s take a look at the odds for the game, courtesy of BetUS and Bovada.

WNBA All-Star Game Prediction and Picks
Both team captains went for a number of familiar faces for their roster picks.
Wilson selected Aces teammates Jackie Young and Chelsea Gray as starters, with teammate Kelsey Plum also being picked as one of Team Wilson’s reserves.
Stewart, meanwhile, selected former Seattle Storm teammate Jewell Loyd as a starter, with two current Liberty teammates (Sabrina Ionescu and Courtney Vandersloot) and one former Storm teammate (Ezi Magbegor) selected as Team Stewart reserves.
The significant Aces contingent is sure to excite the home crowd, but will familiarity on either side have an effect on the WNBA All-Star Game result?
Well, it certainly doesn’t hurt to have a rapport with the players on your team. But on paper, Team Wilson has the edge anyway.
Taking a look at the latest WNBA MVP odds at Bovada, eight of the top 12 favorites–including the injured Elena Delle Donne–are on Team Wilson, including four of the top five (Wilson, Alyssa Thomas, Arike Ogunbowale, and Kelsey Plum).
Also, of the top nine favorites for All-Star Game MVP, seven are from Team Wilson, including all four representatives from the host city’s team.

The final margin in last year’s All-Star Game in Chicago was thanks in part to a second quarter in which Team Wilson outscored Team Stewart 36-11 to take a 20-point lead at halftime.
Will we see a similar result this year? I don’t foresee another 11-point quarter from Team Stewart–that takes some doing in an All-Star Game–but I expect Team Wilson to win and cover tonight and send many fans home happy.
